Did you know?
When it comes to drawing an existing thatch roof, in my experience it is mostly the case where an owner had a previously existing thatch roof a.k.a, a Lapa where they added a fire place afterwards as an addition and alteration.
City of Windhoek has very specific fire regulations when it come to a thatched roof:
โข Approved fire-retardant treatment of wooden components and exposed thatch surfaces, with treatment every five years as a standard.
โข Written certification of the treatment is also a requirement for building plan approval and for compliance, regardless if the structure is new/ existing or previously approved or not.
โข If a thatch roof exceeds 50mยฒ or is attached to an existing dwelling or is situated closer than a certain distance to a boundary wall, additional firewalls or fire surpression systems become a requirement.
There are many more requirements to speak of, but if I give any more info I would have to.....๐ฅด
Hope this gives some insight. Once again this is why it important to have professional guidance before proceeding with construction, even if it is "only a braai". ๐
