Brigadier General M. M. Yerima once said, “The uniform is not a privilege. It is a responsibility to defend truth, even when truth is uncomfortable.” He is one of the most respected officers in Nigerian Army history. Brigadier General Mohammed M. Yerima hails from Bade Local Government Area, Yobe State, and was commissioned into the infantry after graduating from the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Known for discipline, loyalty to the constitution, and balancing military duty with public accountability, Yerima served in various command and staff roles, gaining experience on the field before entering military public relations. He rose through the ranks by merit, professionalism, and a belief that the military must speak the truth clearly and responsibly.
Yerima's legacy is tied to the Nigerian Army's communication history. He became Director of Army Public Relations twice, representing the Army nationally and internationally, handling crisis communication, and briefing stakeholders on Armed Forces activities.
Officers describe him as professional, calm, and dependable. Yerima speaks for accountability, verifying details before addressing the public, treating information as national security, not entertainment. He defends the Nigerian Army's image by defending the institution, its honour, and the sacrifices of those who serve.
