Recently, I handled an installation for a client who preferred to source the materials himself, fair enough, given his experience in the building industry.

We had a good working relationship, so I trusted his judgment and gave him the go-ahead.

The gutters? Excellent quality.

But the downpipes, clips, and several accessories? Substandard, clearly mixed in by the supplier alongside the good ones. A classic move that many buyers never catch.

I noticed immediately but said nothing. His supplier happens to be a close friend, and the last thing I wanted was to spark unnecessary conflict between them.

So I stayed quiet, worked with what was available, and still delivered the best installation I could.

But here's what I took away from that experience — in this industry, honesty is everything. Not everyone who sounds experienced or knowledgeable has your best interest at heart.

Some will sell you a mix of quality and inferior materials and smile while doing it.

Give people a platform, but watch closely. Let their actions speak.

I thought I was saving money… I didn’t know I was wasting it.

Bought a cheap wireless mic, and the sound was so bad I couldn’t use any video I recorded.

I tried everything to fix it… nothing worked.
Had to return it.

This time, I did proper research and bought a better one.
You can hear the difference clearly.

I learned something:
Honesty matters. Quality matters.
Cheap is not always cheap in the end.

Same thing applies to work—if you cut corners, you’ll pay for it later.
