Have you ever wondered why the University of Nigeria, Nsukka doesn't offer Chemical Engineering? It's a question that has puzzled many, but the answer lies in a fascinating story of resilience and innovation. Before the Nigerian Civil War, UNN had a thriving Chemical Engineering department, but it was permanently shut down after the war due to its significant contributions to the Biafran struggle. The department's remarkable scientists and engineers, led by Professor Gordian Ezekwe, formed the Biafran Research and Production Unit, which achieved incredible feats despite the challenges they faced. Their legacy serves as a testament to the power of human ingenuity and determination. So, the next time you walk through UNN's campus, remember the silenced history and the potential for positive change that lies within us. The question is, what can we learn from this story to inspire a brighter future?

The Morning After—October 1, 1960
Independence: Was it the Destination or Just the Starting Line? 🇳🇬
On this day in 1960, the Union Jack was lowered, and the Green-White-Green was raised. We walked into the world as a giant, led by the likes of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Obafemi Awolowo. We had the resources, the brains, and the hope.
But 60+ years later, the question remains: Did we inherit a nation or a collection of regions? The First Republic was full of brilliance but cut short by internal friction. As we look at Nigeria today, are we still fighting the same battles our founding fathers fought, or have we truly evolved?
Discussion Point: If you could go back to 1960 and give our first leaders one piece of advice to save Nigeria’s future, what would it be?
