"ASCRIBE TO THE LORD: A THANKSGIVING OF GLORY"

TEXT: Psalm 29:1-11

Thanksgiving is giving God the glory due His Name.

INTRODUCTION
Thanksgiving is not just about rice and new clothes.
Thanksgiving is ASCRIPTION.

Psalm 29:1-2
`Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness.`

KEY WORD:
ASCRIBE = To attribute, to give credit, to acknowledge.
Today, we are here to give God what belongs to Him.

POINT #1: GOD'S GLORY IN CREATION DEMANDS OUR PRAISE

Psalm 29:3-4
The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders... The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.

David shows us 7 "voices of the LORD" - God speaking through the storm.
He controls rain, lightning, and the cedars of Lebanon. Hallelujah!

SUPPORTING SCRIPTURES:
1. Romans 1:20 - For his invisible attributes... have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world.
2. Psalm 19:1 - The heavens declare the glory of God.

THANKSGIVING APPLICATION:
We thank God for breath, for life, for health, for food.
If God controls storms, friends, He can control your situation.

SAY THIS WITH ME: `Lord, thank you for waking me up this morning.` Does that sound common or childish to you? Don't worry, until you hear that the healthy man who went to sleep last night died in his sleep.

POINT #2: GOD'S GLORY IN JUDGMENT DEMANDS OUR REVERENCE

Psalm 29:5-9
`The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars... makes Lebanon to skip like a calf... The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness...` Wow!

God’s voice is not weak. He breaks strong things. He shakes deserts.
He is the God who fights and sets things right.

SUPPORTING SCRIPTURES:
1. Nahum 1:3 - `The LORD has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm`
2. Hebrews 12:28-29 - `let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire`

THANKSGIVING APPLICATION:
We thank God for protection.
Some storms came to break you but God broke the storm first.
Some enemies planned evil but the Voice of the Lord scattered them.

SAY THIS WITH ME: `Thank you Jesus for battles I didn’t even know about.` This doesn't sound common because you are always aware of the presence of the enemy.

POINT #3: GOD'S GLORY IN HIS TEMPLE DEMANDS OUR SURRENDER

Psalm 29:9b-11
‘And in his temple all cry, "Glory!" The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever. May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!` Shout Hallelujah!!!

After the storm, God is still on the throne.
After chaos, God gives STRENGTH and PEACE.

SUPPORTING SCRIPTURES:
1. Psalm 93:1 - `The LORD reigns; he is robed in majesty`
2. Philippians 4:6-7 - `the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts`
3. Isaiah 40:29 - `He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength`

THANKSGIVING APPLICATION:
God doesn’t just give us things. He gives us Himself.
No matter the flood - sickness, debt, confusion - THE LORD SITS ENTHRONED OVER IT.

SAY THIS WITH ME: `Lord, I thank you because my future is in your hands.` Yes, God is mindful of our future especially when we surrender all to Him. We can't thank Him enough.

CONCLUSION: OUR THANKSGIVING RESPONSE:
Psalm 29 starts with "Ascribe" and ends with "Bless".

3 THINGS TO DO THIS WEEK:
1. ASCRIBE: Give God credit for everything. Don’t take the glory.
2. WORSHIP: `worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness` - Come with a clean heart.
3. RECEIVE: v11 - Receive God’s Strength and Peace today.

CLOSING PRAYER:
`LORD, we ascribe to you glory and strength. You sit enthroned over every flood in our lives. Give us strength and bless us with peace in Jesus name. Amen.`

THEME: DON’T LIMIT GOD - (Psalm 78:41)

PART 9: DON’T LIMIT GOD WITH PROCRASTINATION / “LATER”

Texts: Ecclesiastes 11:4; James 4:17; John 5:6

“Later” is the devil’s favorite word. God’s word is “Now”. Delay is not denial, but disobedience is._

INTRODUCTION
THE POOL OF BETHESDA

John 5:6 - Jesus to the 38-year man: “Do you want to get well?”
He answered with excuses: “I have no one... while I’m going, another steps in.” 38 years of “later”.

Procrastination didn’t create his problem. It prolonged it.
38 years waiting for water to stir. Jesus showed up and said “Rise NOW”.

God’s miracles are “now miracles”. Procrastination turns “today” into “never”. Don’t let “I’ll start tomorrow” bury the seed God gave you today.

3 “LATER” LIES THAT LIMIT GOD

Lie #1: “WHEN CONDITIONS ARE PERFECT” LIE

Ecclesiastes 11:4 - “Whoever watches the wind will not plant... who looks at clouds will not reap”

Farmer waiting for perfect weather = farmer with no harvest.

If you wait for perfect timing, you’ll wait forever. God moves in imperfect conditions.
Noah built the ark before the rain. Moses stretched his rod before the sea parted. Move!!!

Illustration:
You don’t learn to swim by watching YouTube, do you? You jump in the pool!

Application:
That business plan, that book, that prayer altar, that apology... Stop waiting for “when I have time/money/connection”. Start with what you have NOW.

Faith moves before the cloud moves - Num 9:17

Lie #2: “I NEED MORE PREPARATION” LIE

Luke 9:59-60 - “Lord, first let me go bury my father... Jesus: Let the dead bury their own dead”_
“First let me...” is procrastination in religious language.

Preparation without action = procrastination in disguise.
God doesn’t call the prepared. He prepares the called. Moses said “I’m not eloquent”. God said “I will be with your mouth” - Ex 4:12. Hallelujah!!

Illustration:
A rocket doesn’t wait till fuel is 100% perfect. It launches at 95% and adjusts in flight.

Application:
Start messy. Start small. Start scared. But START. James 4:17 - “If you know the good you ought to do and don’t do it, it’s sin.”

Lie #3: “I’LL DO IT AFTER THIS SEA*ON” LIE

Proverbs 27:1 - “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring”_
“After NYSC... After marriage... After I get money... After I’m free”

“After” is a graveyard for dreams. Tomorrow is not promised. Today is the day of salvation - 2 Cor 6:2

Illustration:
A seed in your pocket will never become a tree. Plant it NOW.

Application:
That skill you want to learn, that fast you want to keep, that person you want to forgive... The best time was yesterday. The second best time is TODAY.

HOW TO BREAK OUT:
3 “NOW” KEYS

1. Kill “Later”, Embrace “Now”
- 2 Cor 6:2. “Now is the time of God’s favor”. Put a deadline on every dream.
2. Do Not Be Afraid - Hag 2:4. “Be strong... and work, for I am with you”. God + You > Fear + Delay
3. Use the 5-Second Rule - When God says “Go”, count 5-4-3-2-1 and move. Before your brain gives 100 excuses.

ALTAR CALL: RISE AND WALK
“Every spirit of ‘later’, ‘tomorrow’, ‘after I’m ready’...
I command you LOOSE YOUR HOLD NOW in Jesus' mighty name!

Stand up if you’ve been at your pool of Bethesda 38 years.
Jesus is asking you today: ‘Do you want to be made whole?’

Drop the mat of excuses. Pick up your destiny mat. WALK NOW!
No more waiting. No more delay. The time is NOW!”

Prophetic Declaration -
I speak into your life today: The spirit of delay is broken!
Every unstarted project, every buried dream, every postponed obedience...
God is releasing grace to START and FINISH in Jesus name!
Expect the UNLIMITED God to accelerate your speed this season!”
