ASSUMPTION
Let's assume the external building is:
50 ft Γ 40 ft
So the external perimeter is:
P = 2(L + W)
P = 2(50 + 40)
P = 2 Γ 90
External perimeter = 180 ft
Now, we also have internal partition walls.
For this example, let's assume all the internal partition walls combined give us:
100 ft
This includes the partitions separating the bedrooms, toilets, parlor, dining, kitchen, laundry, etc.
So:
External walls = 180 ft
Internal partitions = 100 ft
Therefore:
Total wall length = 180 + 100 = 280 ft
NOW LET'S CALCULATE THE 5 COURSES TO DPC
Let's assume the DPC is 5 courses of 9-inch-high blocks.
One block has an assumed face dimension of:
18 inches Γ 9 inches
Convert to feet:
18 inches = 1.5 ft
9 inches = 0.75 ft
Therefore, one block covers:
1.5 Γ 0.75 = 1.125 sq ft
But there is an even easier way to calculate it.
Calculate blocks per course:
Total wall length Γ· block length
280 Γ· 1.5 = 186.67
So approximately:
187 blocks per course
We are using 5 courses to reach our assumed DPC level.
Therefore:
187 Γ 5 = 935 blocks
So our estimated block requirement from ground level to DPC is:

Now allow some wastage/breakage.
If we allow approximately 5%:
935 Γ 5% = 46.75
Approximately 47 blocks.
Therefore:
935 + 47 = 982 blocks
