We are very proud to share that our third project has been built.

Since the summer of 2014 we have been working on the interior design of the historic building ‘Huize Voordaan’ in Groenekan. The client was 'The Learning Collective', which is compromised out of three consulting agencies. Olduvai Gorge proposed an integral vision for this 19th century, monumental building. The design included: (1) A completely new interior concept with colour schemes, natural flooring and lighting. This to set the quality of the 19th century architecture in place and to provide a neutral framework for the agencies’ activities. (2) A modern opened attic design as a meeting place for the three agencies and their employees.

One year after the grand opening of the ECE Campus by our prime minister, Mark Rutte, the Bavaria Bar and slide were opened in the Rotterdam Science Tower by Rotterdam’s alderman Langenberg and minister Kamp. The slide is integrated in that bar and brings visitors from one floor to the other. After minister Kamp got a tour on the ECE campus, the opening was celebrated in style with drinks.

We are very proud to share that our second project has been built.

For the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship, Bavaria asked us to design a high quality bar as a central meeting hub for all entrepreneurs in the Rotterdam Science Tower. The bar is designed as a big black cube with white cutouts for general storage, bar equipment and a stainless steel slide to the underlying floor offices. Within the opened cube there’s plenty of space for a receptionist and several bartenders. A truss with spotlighs and a rear panel of steel wire mesh give the bar a cozy atmosphere while the industrial character is maintained.

More than one year after the opening, the ECE Campus is now stated similar to the Google Headquarters! Thank you ErasmusMagazine Rotterdam; it's great to see that the campus works exactly as we had in mind two years ago!

Wat een verassing vanochtend toen we de Volkskrant open sloegen! Het artikel over de viroloog Ab Osterhaus, wordt kracht bijgezet met een foto van hem, in het door ons gerealiseerde interieur van de ECE Startup Campus!

Na een kleine radiostilte zijn we deze maand weer even terug op de radar met een paar mooie updates; uiteraard hebben we niet stil gezeten! De nationale finale van get in the ring vond op 7 oktober plaats in het door de ons ontworpen campus van het Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship. Mooi om te zien hoe ons ontwerp de organisatie van zo’n groot evenement faciliteert!

#3. Our first project in China! This project is designed in collaboration with our partners at ARX Nederland, who are one of the selected architects to work on the Shanghai Tower. This landmark in Shanghai, the tallest building of China, houses the Guanfu Museum. In an atrium, that belongs to the Guanfu Museum, ARX has designed a beautiful Olive Garden as a meeting place for business and cultures. In a luxurious atmosphere it shows 8 ancient Western civilisations, symbolised by 8 columns and engraved writings in the floor. Using a script, designed in GrassHopper and Rhino, we at Studio Olduvai Gorge have developed this complex flooring concept into tangible constructional drawings to construct the 600 different engraved tiles. The bar is designed as a big black cube with white cutouts for general storage, bar equipment and a stainless steel slide to the underlying floor offices. Within the opened cube there’s plenty of space for a receptionist and several bartenders. A truss with spotlights and a perforated stainless steel rear panel give the bar a cozy atmosphere while the industrial character is maintained. Construction of the bar starts later this year, together with the construction of a kitchen and a coffee corner for Starbucks we designed too! Detailed construction drawings will follow after construction.

Een nieuw kijkje in onze keuken #1. In mei hebben we voor de Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), de grootste faculteit van de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, een ontwerp gemaakt om de publieke hal van de faculteit te vernieuwen. Bovendien hebben we een brainstorm met alle betrokken op touw gezet om met elkaar vooruit te kijken naar dit nieuwe, innovatieve, verfrissende en creatieve centrum. Helaas moeten we over ons ontwerp nog discreet blijven.

Wij nemen jullie deze week graag mee in de reis die zo'n 20 maanden geleden begon toen Bart en Roel besloten de handen ineen te slaan met de oprichting van Olduvai Gorge, na het succesvolle Canopy House project (zie foto). In het afgelopen jaar zijn we veelal bezig geweest met nieuwe concepten en projecten die we nog zelden met jullie gedeeld hebben. Daar willen we deze week verandering in brengen; met een aantal sneak peeks van onze projecten geven we iedere dag een nieuw kijkje in onze keuken. Dank voor alle support so far, Groet! Voor ons project in Utrecht hebben we vanochtend een gesprek gehad met Brunai Interiors in Den Haag; Zij zijn de Nederlandse agent van bekende merken zoals Quinze & Milan.
