Exciting News from Fogo Island, Newfoundland, Canada

We’ve acquired a charming old schoolhouse and am embarking on a journey to restore it into a vibrant studio and workspace for our creative endeavors. 🎨🏡

We are looking to hire 1 to 2 skilled carpenters (or architecture students with a passion for hands-on work) to join us in breathing new life into this beautiful building! If you have building experience and are interested in collaborating on this project, we would love to hear from you.

The opportunity will last for 2 to 12 weeks, starting July 1st. We are open to short or longer working sessions. Let’s create something special together! If you’re interested, please reach out. Your help will be greatly appreciated!

In the present and traditional homeland of the Penobscot Nation, Tekαkαpimək Contact Station is a stunning 734 m2 interpretive environment welcoming the global public to Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument in northern Maine. In consultation with the U.S. National Park Service, Tekαkαpimək (Dah-gaga-bee-mok), Penobscot for “as far as one can see”, is imbued with Indigenous knowledges from the Wabanaki Nations: Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, Mi’kmaq Nation, Passamaquoddy Tribe – Sipayik and Motahkomikuk, and Penobscot Nation. It intentionally incorporates cultural narratives, languages, images, kinship relations, ancestral representations, contemporary practices, and native materials of these lands and waters. The project was conceived as a gift by Maine-based Roxanne Quimby and Elliotsville Foundations.

We’re honoured to share that the Tekαkαpimək Contact Station has been longlisted for the 2025 Dezeen Awards.

Out of more than 4,300 entries from 89 countries, the project is among 262 architecture projects recognized this year - and one of just 15 projects longlisted in the Cultural category.

We’re deeply grateful to be included alongside so many inspiring projects from around the world.
