Tullow Oil plc has agreed to sell its entire Kenyan operations to Gulf Energy Ltd for a minimum of $120 million, marking a significant shift in the country’s oil sector. ​

The transaction, executed through Tullow’s subsidiary, Tullow Overseas Holdings BV, involves the sale of Tullow Kenya BV, which holds the company’s full working interest in the Lokichar oil fields. ​
The payment structure includes an initial $40 million upon completion, another $40 million by June 2026 or upon Field Development Plan approval, and a final $40 million spread over five years starting in late 2028. Tullow will also receive conditional royalty payments and retains a right to re-enter the project with a 30% stake in future development phases at no cost. ​

This move is part of Tullow’s strategy to reduce its net debt, which stood at approximately $1.5 billion at the end of last year. The company had previously written off $145 million on its Kenyan operations and sold its interests in Gabon for $300 million. ​

Meet Lauranne. As an Operational Engineer, she took the lead on our dredging project in Iceland.

"This is one I won’t soon forget. The view from the vessel, with the Northern Lights dancing above and snow-covered mountains in the background, was simply breathtaking.

Professionally, this project was just as rewarding. Alongside my key responsibilities of following up the dredging progress and reporting, I also managed client communication and participated in financial discussions. My role requires a wide range of skills—technical expertise, leadership, organisation, and communication—and this project allowed me to strengthen them all."
