A closer look at our recently completed feature wall project in Selwyn.

This project involved transforming an existing wall into a custom feature for the living space, complete with timber-look panelling, a built-in TV area and an open slatted divider to help define the space.

Our team completed the framing modifications, structural backing for the TV, concealed cable and power provisions, installation of the wall panelling, TV mounting and finishing details.

The finished design adds a modern touch and plenty of character, while still keeping the living area feeling open and connected.

We're really pleased with the finished result and how much it's changed the feel of this space. 👌

A pretty impressive transformation from one very plain wall 👌

We recently completed this feature wall, adding timber-look panelling, a built-in TV area and slatted divider to create a completely new look for the living space.

Every home is different, but every job deserves the same level of care and attention to detail.

For this one, we rebuilt a worn set of concrete steps, strengthened the retaining wall, and installed a new timber balustrade to create safer, more practical access to the home.

The new concrete steps were reinforced with steel mesh and D12 reinforcing before being finished with a non-slip textured surface, then acid washed and sealed for a clean, durable finish.

The timber balustrade ties it all together, providing a solid handrail while giving the entrance a tidy, modern finish.

Not every building repair is obvious once the job is finished—but they're often the ones that matter most. 👌

This floor had started to slump due to deteriorated framing underneath, so we removed the damaged section and rebuilt it back to a safe, solid and level floor.

We believe in getting the structure right the first time, so our clients can have confidence that the work is built to last.

It's been great seeing this area come together over the past few weeks.

We've built a new deck with stepped access from the house, along with new cladding and finishing details on the existing building to help bring the whole space together.

It's already becoming a fantastic outdoor space for our clients to enjoy.

We've still got more work to do on this project, and we're looking forward to sharing the completed transformation with you.

Meet the team behind Rata Builders. 👋

Pictured from left to right are Connor, Luke and Luke C.

We're a family-owned building company based in Hororātā, proudly servicing Selwyn, Christchurch and the wider Canterbury region.

Rata Builders was built on a simple idea—to do things properly, communicate honestly and treat every home or project with the same care we'd expect if it were our own.

With Luke leading the team as our Licensed Building Practitioner, and Connor and Luke C by his side, we're proud to be a close-knit, family-run team that genuinely enjoys what we do.

Behind the scenes, Jordyn keeps everything running smoothly by looking after the administration, accounts and customer communication, helping ensure every project is organised from the first enquiry through to completion.

We've also recently welcomed Joel to the Rata Builders team, and we're excited to have him on board.

Whether we're building a new home, renovating a space or working on a rural project, we believe in turning up, working hard and building lasting relationships with our clients.

Not every project is about building something new.

Our team is currently carrying out structural repairs on this home in Waddington. Carefully restoring areas affected by rot while preserving as much of the original heritage as possible.

This stage of the project includes:

• Replacing rotten framing
• Repairing rotten bottom plates
• Restoring timber sash windows affected by rot
• Reusing the existing weatherboards where possible
• Installing new insulation and building wrap

There's still plenty to do, and we're looking forward to sharing the finished result over the coming weeks. 🔨
