Peastraw added to your garden gives it a boost of nitrogen and organic matter as it breaks down which helps the soil structure to improve. Blocks sunlight which in turn stops w**d from sprouting. Insulates plants roots against extreme hot or cold temperatures giving you a better plant.

I currently have 7 bales left over if you are after some added goodness to your garden. Perfect for around those strawberry plants that everyone will be getting into the garden over the coming weeks 🍓 $14 including gst

Winter might be coming to an end but we know that September is always the month with worse weather☔️
You’ll see tomatoes plants are making their way to a garden centre, but hold off on purchasing any of these unless you have a well heated area. As you’ll end up disappointed and having to spend more money on purchasing more to grow for summer. We still have a month before you really want to be getting those summer vegetables growing
Don’t stress if your roses are not pruned this can still be done in September

Making sure you have the correct soil conditions for your plants saves you money in the long term and allows you to have happy healthy plants for years to come.
When planting plants you can add compost to the hole, or slow release fertilise tablets. This will give your plant the best chance of survival. When planting you also want to make sure that it is planted deep enough you want to go just abit bigger than the pot the it is in, this allows the plant to fully anchor into the ground and not be pulled out of the ground in rough weather or by animals

Looking for a permanent vegetable that you plant once and harvest forever? I have you sorted

These Egyptian Walking Onions are the ultimate low-maintenance perennial crop for Southland gardens. They are 100% frost-hardy, handle snow, and will thrive in our southern climate year after year!

Why are they called "Walking" Onions?
Instead of flowering, these fascinating plants produce clusters of small "topset" onions at the top of their stalks. As the stalks get heavy, they bow down, touch the soil, and take root—literally "walking" across your garden beds over time!

How to use them:
* Green Onions / Scallions: Snip the hollow green stems all year round for stir-fries, salads, and garnishes.
* The Topsets: Harvest the little mini-onions at the top for pickling or popping straight into stews.
* The Main Bulbs: Eat the mild underground shallot-like bulbs at the base.

Some photos from a job I did in October 2025 to the recent photos from this week when I went and gave them another top up of compost and some food.

Back in October I had to lift the Portuguese laurel, make the hole bigger add compost and a slow release fertiliser to try and give them a bit of a boost, as they had been planted in 2023 but had struggled to grow. They are now lush green and pushing out growth 🌱

Finally got some branded gear, rest of winter covered with the beanie and summer sorted with the caps 🧢
