Fun Fact: Why 80 mm Pavers Are So Strong
Most driveway pavers around the world follow the same engineering sweet spot. Once a paver reaches 80 mm in thickness, it can handle serious pressure. In fact, a properly installed 80 mm paver can withstand over 7 tonnes of load, which is more than enough to support a small car on a single block.
That is why 80 mm has become the global standard for driveways. It is the perfect balance of strength, durability, and long‑term performance. Your driveway is standing on a number that engineers trust everywhere.

A great little DIY project in Three Kings, Auckland 👏

One of our customers recently used a mix of ETERA 400×100×80 Linear pavers and 200×100×80 Cobble pavers to build this 20m² carpark — and he did the whole thing himself.

He actually works in IT, not construction, which makes the result even more impressive!

The Linear pavers give the area a clean, modern look, while the Cobble pavers work nicely around the edges to finish it off.

Always great to see what Auckland homeowners can create with a bit of planning and some good pavers.

Thanks to our customer for sharing the progress with us.

If you're planning a driveway, carpark or outdoor paving project around Auckland, feel free to message us — happy to help with paver options and quantities.

Concrete Blocks vs Cinder Blocks
What is the difference, and which one is better?
Many people use the terms concrete block and cinder block as if they were the same thing. They look similar, but their materials, strength, and long‑term performance are quite different. Understanding these differences helps you choose the right product and avoid costly mistakes.
What are they made of?
The main difference is in the ingredients.
Concrete blocks, also known as CMUs, are made from Portland cement, water, sand, and dense aggregates such as crushed stone or gravel. This creates a strong, solid block that usually weighs between 30 and 55 pounds.
Cinder blocks use coal cinders instead of stone or gravel. They are lighter, usually around 20 to 25 pounds, but also less dense and noticeably weaker.
Which one is stronger?
For most construction work, concrete blocks are the better choice. Their dense structure gives them a compressive strength of around 2,500 PSI, making them suitable for:
-Foundation walls
-Load‑bearing walls
-Retaining walls
-Structural construction
-Outdoor projects that need durability
Cinder blocks are not recommended for structural use. They cannot handle the same weight or pressure and are best used for light, non‑load‑bearing projects.
Moisture resistance
Concrete blocks also perform better against moisture.
Cinder blocks are more porous and absorb water easily. In cold climates, trapped moisture can freeze and cause cracking.
Concrete blocks are denser and naturally more water resistant. Even so, below‑ground foundation walls should still be waterproofed.
Which should you choose?
If your project needs strength, stability, or long-term durability, concrete blocks are the clear winner. They are the standard choice for modern construction.
Cinder blocks can be useful for decorative or lightweight DIY projects, but their lower strength and higher porosity make them less reliable for anything structural.

Don’t rush the journey; take a moment to feel where the road has taken us.
Building a factory was never meant to be easy. Even the short walk from the office to the production floor has had its bumps, surprises, and the occasional metaphorical nail in the shoe. But we’ve already achieved the hardest part: turning nothing into something. With that foundation in place, the climb from one to ten thousand feels far less daunting.
People can spend endless energy on branding tricks, clever packaging, or market hype. It all sounds impressive from afar, but none of it compares to standing inside the factory and witnessing a block being pressed into shape under the weight of steel and machinery. That deep, resonant shockwave—the sound, the force, the certainty—delivers a kind of satisfaction no marketing strategy can replicate.
Every hammer strike, every nail set. Every brick, every stone. Every board lined up straight. Every step leaving its mark. This is the real, tangible work that shapes us. This is the backbone we stand on and the spirit we move forward with, ETERA Group.

Product Spotlight — Linear Series 400x100x80mm
The Linear Series 400x100x80mm is one of the most striking modern paver formats available in New Zealand. Long, slim, and perfectly defined, it creates a clean architectural rhythm that instantly lifts any landscape. The proportions deliver a sleek, elegant look that is rarely seen in the local market, making it a standout choice for designers who want something fresh and contemporary.
This format brings a refined sense of direction and flow to outdoor spaces. It stretches pathways, sharpens edges, and adds a modern visual cadence that traditional paver sizes cannot achieve. It suits premium residential projects, commercial walkways, and any landscape aiming for a minimalist, high-end finish.

The Linear Series is available with ETERA permeable function and our NZ-exclusive dual layer technology, giving designers practical performance and multiple colour options without the usual premium cost. Product Spotlight — Cobble Series 200x100x80
The Cobble Series 200x100x80 is one of the most iconic paver formats in New Zealand. It is the classic size that has shaped countless driveways, walkways, and public spaces across the country. Strong, compact, and incredibly versatile, this format has earned its reputation as a true NZ favourite.
What sets the ETERA Cobble Series apart is the technology behind it. Our NZ exclusive dual-layer system allows multiple coloured aggregates to be placed in the top layer with precision and consistency. Designers get access to richer colours, sharper textures, and more creative freedom without the premium price tag that usually comes with complex surface finishes. It is the perfect choice for ambitious design work that still needs to stay practical and cost effective.
The Cobble Series is also available with our permeable body option. This feature helps reduce surface water buildup and lowers the risk of flooding, an increasingly important consideration with the climate challenges New Zealand has faced in recent years. It keeps outdoor spaces safer, drier, and more resilient during heavy rain.
Tough enough for driveways, refined enough for walkways, and engineered for modern NZ conditions. The Cobble Series 200x100x80 is a classic for a reason, and with ETERA technology behind it, it is now better than ever.

Factory Update — The Numbers Behind Our Strength
This week, we are putting real figures forward to show what makes the ETERA masonry factory one of the most capable and advanced operations in New Zealand.
Our fully automatic production system runs with minimal human intervention, which allows us to achieve output levels that are extremely hard to match in the current NZ market. For example, our Cobble Paver 200x100x80 and Valley Brick Veneer 230x76x70 roll off the line at 30 units every 10 seconds. This level of productivity keeps stock consistently available, shortens lead times, and ensures projects stay on schedule without the usual production delays.
Quality is equally protected. Our entire formula and production process is monitored by an AI-powered sensor system that reads the condition of every input material, from moisture to density to aggregate proportion. It adjusts vibration and compression in real time to keep every batch aligned to the same high standard. This gives clients and partners confidence that every block and paver delivered to site will perform exactly as expected, with no variation from pallet to pallet.
Location is another advantage. Our 6000 sqm factory and storage yard sits in central Manukau, right inside one of Auckland’s strongest transport hubs. This allows faster deliveries, smoother logistics, and easier pick ups, all of which reduce waiting time and keep project timelines moving without interruption.
ETERA is engineered for speed, consistency, and reliability, and these numbers show exactly why our system delivers at a level that sets a new benchmark for NZ masonry manufacturing.
Proudly made in New Zealand, for New Zealand.
