Our team had the pleasure of painting this purpose-built cabin, nestled in the middle of a paddock beneath our maunga 🗻 where it will serve as a peaceful home office.

Swipe to see the epic WFH view!

The exterior was painted in Karaka, helping the cabin blend beautifully into the surrounding landscape. Native planting is still to come, which will complete the vision perfectly.

Inside, we used paints throughout, with Natural White on the ceilings and trim, and Cotton on the walls. The finish features ultra-flat ceilings, low-sheen walls, and semi-gloss enamel trim.

A simple, natural colour palette that complements the setting perfectly. We’re proud of how this one turned out.

If you’re looking for a healthier, more sustainable paint option, is proudly made in New Zealand using naturally derived ingredients. There are no chemical odours or air quality worries - you can use rooms immediately after painting. Go on, check them out!

Nothing transforms a street frontage quite like a fresh coat of paint.

Before painting, our team gave the fence a thorough clean with two moss and mould treatments followed by a pressure wash to remove built-up dirt and contaminants. Once prepped, we primed the bare concrete with Dulux 1 Step Prep and finished it with two coats of Dulux Timbercryl for a fresh, long-lasting finish.

Sometimes it’s the smaller projects that have the biggest impact on your home’s street appeal 🏡

Had to give our trusty red van a respectable amount of time in the spotlight before revealing the younger, flashier member of the Āwhina fleet 😉

It’s great to stand out and be memorable, we’re definitely getting a few more second takes now 👀😅 cheers for the flash upgrade!

An epic project to be part of in Tapuae.

Our team oiled the exterior cedar cladding with Dryden WoodOil (colour Dry Hills), applying two coats three months apart to achieve a rich, even finish. These photos were taken between coats, with a maintenance coat recommended every 2–3 years to keep the timber looking its best.

The soffits were finished in Dulux ColourGuard (Flaxpod), tying everything together beautifully.

As with every exterior project, we made sure the gardens and surrounding landscaping were well protected throughout the job.

A spectacular home, perfectly perched to take in the view of our maunga.

Thanks for trusting us with this project

The ol’ red van got herself a little makeover recently.

There was some discussion about whether she should finally be retired and replaced with something a bit more “on brand” however that idea received strong opposition... “She’s got at least another 100k in her.”

Fair enough.

She’s been a solid worker in the family business for well over a decade now, a trusty workhorse for McKernan’s Redecorating before she wound up at Āwhina Painters. A bit rough around the edges? Sure. But reliable, hardworking, and built to last.

Maybe that’s pretty “on brand” after all.

And maybe there’s something to be said for taking the sustainable route instead of replacing things just because they’re not shiny and new anymore. Even when those things are bright red 🤭😅

We’re proud to be sharing our new logo. We love it and hope you do too!

The design was created and gifted to us by our cousin, Duane Luke. This taonga connects who we are, where we come from, and the way we aim to show up in our work.

We’re deeply grateful Duane shared his whakaaro and creativity and it’s a privilege to carry his work with us.

We will share more about the meaning of our logo, for now keep an eye out 👀 as it will be out and about in the region very soon
