My friend and I chanced on this beautiful garden in Copenhagen on our early morning walk. 🩷

Now and then I reflect on what I've learnt and what changed with the way we live since I transitioned from houseplant gardening to houseplant and vegie gardening.

1. I learnt to make my own vermicast
2. I learnt how to make my own fertilizer.
3. I learnt to grow my own seedlings.
4. I learnt to pickle extra harvest.
5. I learnt about fast freezing.
6. I learnt about curing my harvest so they store better and longer.
7. I see less tin food in our pantry.
8. We no longer buy banana from the shop.
9. We no longer buy bitter melon, banana blossoms, choko or chayote, chards, turmeric, bay leaves, parsley and other herbs.
10. My gym sessions changed from paying membership fee to simply walking up and down a steep slope daily; most of the time, pushing a fully loaded garden trolley.
11. I no longer window shop, instead I just walk around and amongst plants and flowers in season whenever I can or whenever I want.
12. I no longer do nights out, no more concerts, no more movies. Even our weekly dine out tradition is no longer weekly but once in a while on speciall occasions only. I conserve whatever energy I now have left to use going up and down a steep slope, digging holes and ditches, building walkways, weeding, planting, and all that a gardener needs to do.
13. I no longer care too much about how I look or what people think or say about me because in the garden, the flowers bloom just the way they are and and the vegies grow just as nature intended them to do; they don't judge, they just mind their own business!πŸ₯‚πŸ₯°πŸ˜‡πŸ’πŸ’œ

My husband has been so easy to cook for. He will eat almost anything I cook for him. Such a contrast from my ex who refused to try any food that looks or tastes different from his usual food.

When you are not free to cook or eat the kind of food you want or need; you either forsake who you are or learn to hide it. Sadly, I did both but that was in the past. I feel blessed and am grateful to be my own person now.

Last weekend my husband was apologizing for not doing our grocery shopping. I usually make the grocery list and he does the shopping. I don't really enjoy doing it with him. I like to read labels and he likes to zip here and there and get out! πŸ™ˆπŸ˜…πŸ˜

I think we would have been better off getting an upright freezer. But a chest freezer is what we have, I just have to re-organize next time to make my life better. I managed to pick up a couple of freezer baskets. from the op shops, I am counting on them
Although I stacked food up separately, it still better to have them stacked separately in baskets. I have never stored a chest freezer-full of fresh produce before so I am learning and finding ways to better organize it.

Last week my husband skipped our grocery shopping. I have been very good portioning food he buys. I managed to feel our chest freezer with fresh produce from our garden and our refrigerators freezer compartment is full of protein (meat and seafood). Between these two freezers, he can skip going to the supermarket for a few months and we should be okay. But he doesn't know that, he hardly open the freezers.πŸ™ˆπŸ˜
