A new deck taking shape in Tangiteroria

While decorating continues at our Maungatāpere renovation, we’ve been onsite with another local family building this outdoor space, ready for a beautiful 4 metre-wide stacker door from M2 Aluminium Ltd going in next week.

A big thank you as well to Whangarei ITM for supplying the timber and fixings for this project.

It’s always satisfying seeing a project move from groundwork and framing into the stage where everything starts coming together.

Renovations and outdoor spaces often overlap like this behind the scenes, with careful planning and coordination keeping each project progressing at the right time.

Follow along, we’re looking forward to sharing the next stage on this one 👍🏻

In Auckland for a few days for the New Zealand Certified Builders Association conference.

Visited Cabjaks Manufacturing and the High Performer Construction Building today.

Always valuable taking time out of the day-to-day to see new products, new systems, and new ways of building and renovating.

Never stop learning 👍🏻

Everyone loves a tiled bathroom, and choosing your tile colour and size is definitely part of the fun, but there is a lot more going on behind the scenes.

A little progress update from our two bathrooms in Maungatāpere.

One thing we often talk through with clients is what sits underneath the tiles.

Tiles and standard sanded grout look great, but they are not waterproof on their own. Over time, moisture can still work its way through grout lines and joins, which is why the waterproofing underneath matters so much. That's the blue coating in the photo.

On these bathrooms, Maximus Tiling has recommended epoxy grout. Compared with traditional sanded grout, epoxy grout is more resistant to moisture, staining and everyday wear, making it a great option for wet areas and easier to maintain long-term.

Max is also a licensed waterproofer, which is especially important on projects requiring building consent, where waterproofing needs to be completed to the correct standard and documented accordingly.

Max will be laying tile along the floor, adding a tile skirting surround and also to the face of the bath surround. We will add an acrylic liner around the bath so no need to waterproof this area.

Always a pleasure working alongside Maximus Tiling. Max is highly regarded by suppliers, fellow tradies and clients alike, and we really value having him as part of the team on projects like these.

Tiles are 600x600 Microtec 'Enzo Moon' from Whangarei Tile Depot

Choosing the right builder is just as important as choosing the right home.
Building your dream home is a major investment, so it pays to do your homework. Look beyond the price tag - experience, reputation, communication, build quality, and contract transparency all matter. Thinking about renovating but not sure where to start?

We hear it all the time.
Too many moving parts. Too many trades to organise. Too many unknowns.

That’s exactly why we work the way we do.

At Daniel Wilkinson Builders, we specialise in fully managed bathroom and home renovations across Northland.

From the first onsite visit through to the final details, you deal directly with us throughout the project, with communication, sub-trade coordination, suppliers, deliveries and day-to-day project management handled on your behalf from initial assessment through to completion.

One quote. One point of contact. A more considered way to renovate.

Whether you’re updating the bathroom, improving your home’s layout, or planning a larger renovation, our goal is to make the process feel clear, well organised, and professionally managed from day one.

Planning a renovation? Let’s talk about how we can help make the process feel clear and well managed from the start.

"You just get us, and you get our home.”

That comment came after seven different tradespeople walked through our client's property together discussing every aspect of the renovation. Building. Plumbing. Electrical. Tiling. Painting. Layout ideas. Functionality. Budget considerations.

This stage is a key part of how we manage renovations.

Having all involved trades onsite together means everyone understands not only their role, but how their work needs to flow into the next stage of the project. It keeps the team aligned, encourages valuable professional input early, and helps ensure everyone is working toward the same end goal from the beginning.

Now each trade will prepare their pricing and recommendations, which we collate into one cohesive renovation proposal for the clients.

One point of contact.
One coordinated plan.
One team working toward the same vision.

Behind the scenes of a managed renovation. This is where it starts to come together.

Following demolition and structural repairs, new wall framing is complete and the bath is now in position. With wall linings installed, the space is beginning to take shape as we move into the finishing stages.

We’ve scheduled Precise Painting and Decorating Northland LTD to complete the gib stopping and painting next, followed by Maximus Tiling for waterproofing and tile installation. This sequencing is carefully managed to keep trades moving efficiently with minimal downtime.

While this stage is underway, our team will be progressing another scheduled project, with regular site checks to keep everything on track. We’ll then return for final installation before the plumber and electrician complete the final connections.

Follow the transformation.

This project is a reminder that moisture damage is not always visible.

Once opened up, hidden water damage required the affected wall to be fully rebuilt and brought back to current standards.

Addressing leaks early can often prevent far more extensive repairs later.
