J&R Contracting Limited J&R Contracting Ltd have extensive experience in managing small to large sized Projects and
installing PVC and PE pipe by Trenching or Horizontal Direction

One of our directors, Jonno Webber, established J&R Contracting in 1995. Back then we were mainly a directional drilling company with a small crew working primarily on installing sewer, comms and gas ducting. Over time open trenching was added to our capability which enabled us to undertake more complex, larger scale projects. This has meant adding new technologies and new services such as drainag

e, subdivisional and reinstatement works. We’re now a mid-size company, that plays its part in projects that have a major impact on the New Zealand economy. We are based in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga and New Plymouth.

Delivering Underground Excellence in Te Kūiti
Progress continues to take shape down in Te Kūiti as our team delivers key infrastructure upgrades as part of the Te Kūiti Watermain Resilience Project.
A major milestone for the project has been the installation and commissioning of a 180,000-litre temporary tank farm, enabling construction works to begin on a new 2,800,000-litre reservoir that will strengthen long-term water security for the community.
Additional works completed to date include:
2.2km of 315mm watermain installation and commissioning
800m of 160mm watermain installation and commissioning
Complex tie-ins and new water reticulation infrastructure across the project scope.
Projects of this scale require careful planning, precise ex*****on, and strong collaboration — particularly when working within challenging ground conditions and around existing live networks. A huge effort from everyone involved to keep works progressing safely and efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship throughout. Proud to be delivering another quality piece of infrastructure for the Te Kūiti community.

Our Bay of Plenty Team delivering essential infrastructure while protecting the environment.

J & R Contracting is proud to support Waiotahi Contractors and Whakatāne District Council on the Edgecumbe Watermain Renewals – Package 5.

Our team has been engaged to install 2.4km of DN63, DN125 and DN180 watermain via directional drilling, providing full drilling resources alongside hydrovac support for service investigations and potholing.

Working adjacent to the environmentally sensitive Rangitāiki River and flood protection zones has required detailed planning, strong collaboration, and a commitment to minimising disruption for the local community. Despite challenging ground conditions and recent weather impacts, our crew has maintained a strong focus on environmental controls, safety, and delivery to programme.

Great work by everyone involved in helping strengthen essential water infrastructure for the Edgecumbe community.

Great to see the next generation stepping up!
At just 19 years old, Ryan Tangaroa has achieved a pretty impressive milestone. Straight out of school, he studied Plumbing at Wintec, joined the business two years ago, and has backed that up with real on-the-job commitment and growth.
Ryan is now working independently installing watermain fittings on our Waikato District Council watermain contract, holding his Level 3 Water Reticulation certification — a big achievement for someone so early in their career. He is also working towards completing his NZ Cert in Pipeline Construction and Maintenance - Drinking Water (Level 4) this year. This is exactly why investing in young people matters. With the right training, support, and opportunities, they deliver real value for our clients and our industry.
Proud of the mahi and the attitude.

Our Taranaki team has successfully completed a project for Port Taranaki and Fulton Hogan, installing 58m of 315mm PE beneath the Liquigas ring road, Port Taranaki access road, and Kiwirail corridor, exiting at Breakwater Road using a forward reaming process.
Despite challenging night shift conditions and rain, the crew delivered safely, efficiently, and to program — earning excellent client feedback:
“Thank you for your efforts last night... Port Taranaki & Liquigas are very happy with your efforts so far and very pleased that our works are on track and going to program. Thanks."
Great work by everyone involved — a solid example of planning, ex*****on, and teamwork.
