As Vice President of the Bay of Plenty Master Builders, Marlon was happy to say a few words at the combined Bay of Plenty and Hawke's Bay Apprentice of the Year regional awards.

Supporting the next generation of apprentices is something we're always keen to be part of - the talent from all of the finalists is a real reflection of the quality coming through in our industry.

The Apprentice of the Year is a competition for carpentry apprentices New Zealand wide, recognising excellence across practical skills, professionalism, and industry knowledge. Congratulations to all of the regional winners who will go on to compete at the national final in October.

Our service doesn't stop at handover, we're in it for the long haul.

Homes in coastal environments need a little more care over time, particularly with exposure to salt air. Were back at one of our previously completed beachfront projects in Waihi Beach for a scheduled house wash - part of the ongoing maintenance programme we take care of for our clients.

A new project live on our website - The Avenues, Tauranga.

Completed for a returning client downsizing from the long-time family home, this renovation reimagines a 1940s stucco bungalow for a new chapter. Layout reconfigured, kitchen and bathrooms renewed, native timber floors restored, and finishes updated throughout - all while keeping the character that made the original home worth holding onto.

On a rural build, the house is only part of the job.

Out here there's no connecting to town supply - water storage, wastewater treatment, and power all have to be planned and installed alongside the build itself. Get the sequencing wrong and you're waiting. Get it right and everything comes together at once.

The freshwater tanks are already in the ground, ready to start collecting the moment the roof goes on next week. Septic system and power well underway too. Six weeks on site and a lot has already happened beneath the surface.

Shaw Road, Waihī Beach has been named in the Top 100 at the 2026 Master Builders House of the Year Awards - placing it amongst the top homes in New Zealand this year and earning its entry into the National Awards in November.

Already recognised as Regional Supreme Winner here in the Bay of Plenty, this is a significant achievement and a real testament to the hard work of everyone involved - our team, our subbies, and our clients who trusted us with their home.

Shaw Road, Waihī Beach is now live on our website - Regional Supreme Winner, Master Builders House of the Year Awards 2026.

A comprehensive renovation of an old family bach on an elevated coastal site. Timber weatherboard cladding and louvre roofs set the tone from the outside - inside, bifold shutters open the living space right up to those front-facing ocean views. Custom birch ply cabinetry, battened ceilings, and a light interior palette that still feels like a bach should.

A new build underway out in rural Waihī - and six weeks onsite and it's already moving fast.

A site like this takes some work to get ready - earthworks, ground prep, and getting everything in place before the build construction gets going. Once that foundation is set, the pace picks up quickly, and this one is proof of that.

Our clients wanted to keep it local, so we've got a great crew of Waihī and Waihī Beach subbies on board.
