🐐 BOB NEWBURY – THE GOAT (Greatest Of All Time)!

🙌 Some people really are legends, and Bob Newbury is definitely one of them!

💧Bob has been involved with a network the rural water schemes in the Waitaki for over 35 years! This network of schemes covers over 67 thousand hectares and provides stock and drinking water for hundreds of properties. What Bob doesn't know about the water schemes basically isn't worth knowing!

😎 Yesterday he headed out with Aaron and Tyson to install a new connection at one of the scheme's reservoirs, allowing for additional water storage and increased capacity.

🤩 After 35+ years of dedication, we reckon Bob has well and truly earned his GOAT status! 🐐 (Greatest Of All Time, of course!)

Good on ya, Bob! It's people like you who keep our rural communities ticking along. 👏

🎓 PLUMB FX GATEWAY SCHOLARSHIP UPDATE

✅ Applications have officially closed, so we're busy shortlisting applicants.

🙌 We've received some outstanding applications from the Year 12 & 13 Gateway students at Waimate High School, which is going to make our job of choosing a recipient pretty tough!

It's awesome to see so many motivated young people putting themselves forward, aiming high and taking opportunities to better themselves. 👏

🤩 A huge congratulations to everyone who applied! You should all be proud of yourselves for giving it a go - it's never easy putting yourself out there.

😎 We wish you all the very best of luck and look forward to announcing the successful recipient at the Senior Prizegiving.

😬 You might have noticed I've (Lara) been a bit quiet on the Plumb FX page lately!

😅 Being a small family business means wearing many hats, and lately I've been wearing a slightly different one!

While the guys have been flat out with renovations, new builds, drainage, rural plumbing and maintenance, I've been busy setting up my new business, The Tack House 🐴

😁 It's got absolutely nothing to do with plumbing, but if you're horsey, you'll love it!

😎 Here's a sneak peek at our progress so far, along with a concept pic of our shop once we put the signage up and build the deck (opening mid to late November).

So that's where I've been hiding! 😂 Rest assured, it's business as usual at Plumb FX, even if I've been a bit quiet on here.

If you're into horses, head over and give The Tack House a follow! 🖤🐴

😅 Sometimes those quick jobs don’t pan out as anticipated! Aaron’s digging a soak hole to help water drain away from an area that water pools and gets rather deep in heavy rain.

🪏 2.5 metres deep and he still hasn’t struck gravel, only clay. He needs to reach the gravel so when he back fills the hole with stones the water that enters the area drains away through the gravel below.

🪦It actually does look like a grave (we can assure you it’s not).😆

🚿 We’re loving how this recent bathroom renovation has come together!

The neutral tones paired with the matte black fittings look pretty sharp, but those herringbone tiles in the shower definitely steal the show 👌

😎 We’ve carried out the plumbing from the early stages right through to the finished bathroom, and it’s always good seeing everything come together at the end.

My only criticism? The toilet seat is up in the photos....an obvious sign they were taken by a bloke. 🤦‍♀️

🎓PLUMB FX GATEWAY SCHOLARSHIP - APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN! 🎓

😍 We’re excited to announce that applications for the 2026 Plumb FX Gateway Scholarship are officially open!

😎 Each year, the scholarship is awarded to a standout Gateway student at Waimate High School, recognising a young person who is making the most of the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, build practical skills and explore their future career pathway.

✅ We’re big believers in backing our local young people. Gateway gives students the chance to step outside the classroom, experience the working world and start building the skills and confidence that can take them wherever they want to go.

💪 Supporting our young people today helps build a stronger workforce and community for tomorrow, and we’re proud to play a small part in that.

📅 Applications open: 14 September 2026
📅 Applications close: 12 October 2026

We can’t wait to hear from this year’s applicants and learn more about where they hope their Gateway experience will take them.

Good luck! 👏

😎 Here’s one way to get the work trucks clean!

🚗The Waimate Eagles are holding a car wash today to fundraise for a tournament in Wanaka.

✅ If you’re in Waimate and need your car washed, come and see the Eagles. They’re on Williams Street.

🦘 The Plumb FX Local Legend for August is someone who really needs no introduction around Waimate (and further afield) - Gwen Dempster-Schouten from EnkleDooVery Korna Wallaby Park! 💛

😎 There wouldn’t be many people who don’t associate Waimate with Gwen and her famous wallaby park. Gwen has been caring for and hand-rearing orphaned wallabies since 1977, and since opening the park to visitors in 1999, has welcomed people from all over New Zealand and around the world, to Waimate.

🐈 Her love of animals doesn’t stop with wallabies. Over the years Gwen has rescued and cared for cats, dogs, birds, possums and even a pony with cerebral palsy. ❤️

🤩 She’s also one of the Waimate District’s biggest advocates. Actively encouraging her visitors to explore the district, eat locally and support other businesses, helping spread the benefit of the visitors she brings to the district.

🫶 Outside of the park, Gwen is also a huge support to many people in the community and is always willing to help others, without any fuss or expectation of recognition. She has a genuine heart of gold, paired with a famously dry wit and sense of humour that anyone who has met her will know and appreciate!

❤️ When Gwen was nominated as our August Local Legend, she chose a voucher for The Royal Hotel Waimate, and, in typical Gwen style, plans to use it to take some friends out for a meal rather than keeping the treat to herself.

✅ A Waimate icon, a huge advocate for the district, a friend to animals and people alike, and an all-round good sort.

Congratulations Gwen, our very deserving August Local Legend! 👏🦘💛
