Looks like a potato tastes like gold!
Reinette du Canada is a beautiful blushed yellow russeted late apple, just finishing being picked here in Otago now. It has a rich flavour cooked or raw! We have it available on dwarf medium and vigorous rootstocks, to suit small gardens, through to larger gardens or tough soils. https://www.habitate.co.nz/products/apple-reinette-du-canada?variant=47717633425633

When I was invited to this hui and was focused on being nervous about presenting about food forests in ōtepoti. Then I had the best weekend of connecting with inspiring people of all ages and walks of life. Permaculture is all encompassing not just about gardens (which is my focus). Staying at Whakatū marae, being welcomed by super generous mana whenua and sleeping in the wharenui was very grounding and was the perfect space for the kaupapa of the hui. Shout out to Robina and all the other organisers, it was a super delicious weekend where I was massively inspired by the community building work of so many permaculture folk accross the motu. My calf’s are still sore from the cèilidh!

The Riverton harvest festival was a blast! I ran a workshop on home berry growing and natural fruit tree training and pruning. Robyn Guyton put in a huge display of apple varieties and their histories. The veggie completion was next level with huge onions and a diverse range of produce. The champion of the harvest competition was the entertainment at the feast and was as hilarious as ever. had a super range of plants as well as a new book all about perennial vegetables which I snapped up 🌱😋

I was introduced to this lovely apple “Fortune” by John Butterworth when we Wwoofed with him over 20 years ago in Scotland. His Daughter called it the bubble gum apple, and I’ve loved its distinct flavour ever since. Each season it connects me back through that flavour to the memories and appreciation of that time with John and his family learning much of what I practice in my nursery from working with them in their organic fruit tree nursery.
