Written is a verse from a lengthy poem of mine titled
'A world within'; 4th stanza:
"I feel as though I'm building sand castles
Right at the edge of a dampening shore."
Full poem:
A world lies within me. Unforgiving and unyielding;
Its ground, endlessly battered by raging storms;
Its oceans propel the births of towering wavesโ
Whose crashing upon the earth produces sounds
Indistinguishable from the thundering of the clouds.
As gusts of wind smear the taste of salt all over the air,
I lie shivering each night, unable to find rest . . .
Drenched by the rain and doused in thought:
"Will these skies ever clear, uncovering the moon?"
Abrupt is the weather's character; erratic, its nature.
Its tempests and droughts take turns tossing me about,
As though I weigh less than a leaf! How small I am made,
Despite my daily efforts to become strong and rooted;
Here I resideโat the mercy of the whims of the wind.
The rising toll on my body with each season's ravaging;
The price? Insurmountable, even so, I pay in wasted days;
What progress made, all soon erode and wash away;
I feel as though I'm building sand castles
Right at the edge of a dampening shore.
