A house in Karuizawa, Japan, boasts walls constructed from the world’s first CO2-absorbing concrete.

Situated beside a road on a 110m-long property, Karuizawa, a renowned mountain resort near Nagano, offers a serene environment with temperate summers and lush forests ideal for outdoor activities.

Designed by Japanese studio Nendo, the house incorporates “CO2-SUICOM,” an eco-friendly concrete blend developed by Kajima, Chugoku Electric Power Co., Denka, and Landes Co.

CO2-SUICOM mitigates carbon emissions by substituting a portion of cement with industrial byproducts and integrating CO2-absorbing materials.
