South Punjab Forest Company (SPFC) is a Company licensed and registered under section 42 of the Companies Act, 2017, in Punjab, with the Registrar Joint Stock Companies, Lahore. The Company aims to seek private investment alongside public money, for raising tree plantations, to reduce deforestation in Punjab and to combine forest conservation with sustainable economic development. SPFC has been as

signed a blank area of 99,077 acres mainly falling in D.G. Khan and Bahawalpur Civil Divisions across five districts, which include Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh and D.G. SPFC aims to combine socially and environmentally responsible forestry investments with unique potential for stable and attractive returns through participation in the value chain of competitive and sustainable industries. Selected investors will invest in trees and other timber related assets with an emphasis on investments in high biological growth plantations and will be aligned with the three pillars of SPFC's business philosophy:

Social and environmental sustainability
A balanced portfolio of wood fibre end-uses
Cost and quality competitive Projects

The approach will generate both long-term capital appreciation for partners and an attractive and sustainable income yield. In future, SPFC will seek investments in forestry projects that are or will be certified by a reputable forest management certification scheme.

Today is the 70th death anniversary of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and is being observed across the country with due solemnity.

Quaid-e-Azam played an instrumental role in creating a separate country for the Muslims of sub-continent. Despite the fact he was suffering from tuberculosis, he continued the struggle for Pakistan until independence on 14 August 1947. Quaid-e-Azam died at the end of 71 on 11 September 1948.

Let us strive to follow the path laid by Quaid-e-Azam and with faith, discipline and selfless devotion to duty, achieve our national objectives.

In an Op-Ed co-authored by Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London and Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York, both the mayors share their experiences of how London and New York are experiencing climate change due to increased frequency of extreme weather events such as major floods and intense hurricanes. They share their fears that freak weather in their cities is likely to become the new normal.

On Sunday, September 02, 2018, Prime Minister Imran Khan formally inaugurated the 'Plant for Pakistan' afforestation initiative through which 10 billion trees will be planted across the country over 5 years. Also yesterday, the government surpassed the target of planting 1.5 million trees in a day.

The massive afforestation campaign is a welcome move, as it will help to improve the declining forest cover and will help to address many of the environmental problems that we as a nation face in the wake of climate change, pollution and species extinction.

A latest study published in the journal Science has warned that crop losses due to pest attacks will increase due to climate change and will continue unabated, even if the international target of 2C is met.

The experts have figured out that pests will destroy almost 50% more wheat and 30% more maize than they do today with a 2C rise.
