Words… I’m supposed to write something here, right?
-
How can I?
-
For as long as I can remember, I’ve cherished words and communication as one of the most fundamental things. I still believe words matter deeply — until they don’t.
-
People say, “you should talk about it.”
But what if we talk only to realise we truly don’t agree?
-
Of course, I understand. It’s important to try to understand each other, even when we don’t agree. But words don’t change feelings. Or facts. They’re a rationalisation. And they’re limited.
-
So how can I use words to describe this past winter on this island?
I don’t think I can. Words will always feel short.
-
Don’t get me wrong! I’m rational, and being precise with words was my way of existing in this world for quite some time — a way of protecting myself. I can see that now.
-
Today, I still love them and appreciate them. But I also see how finite they can be.
-
Today, I see so much beauty in struggling to find the words to describe something magical. The beauty of when we don’t need words at all — because somehow, the people around us can read our silences.
-
All these words to say…
-
Greece, you got me speechless.
