Happy International Youth Day to every youth out there. This year’s team, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” resonates with us at Route 360 Solutions Initiative. While 100% of our team is youth, we are diverse and work collectively to achieve shared goals.

Last month, our team conducted a survey to examine the Re-afforesting Freetown City project’s impact in Grafton, Malama, Leicester, and Regent communities 🌱🌱. The survey results are now available and have been insightful - from project benefits to participants’ experiences, the project was impactful in each community 🌍. Thank you to our funders and partners 👏🏾.

In 2024, Route 360 Solutions Initiative informed United Nations Development Programme - UNDP Rome Centre and Ministero dell'Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica about empowering 250 youth and women in the Kroo Bay, Cockle Bay, and Susan’s Bay slums in Freetown City, Sierra Leone through waste management and recycling; they agreed. We officially launched the Building Climate Resilience in the Slums Project ♻️🧱, while they fund it and provide technical support.

So far, we equipped 167 young people and women in Kroo Bay and Cockle Bay; 53 were awarded certificates after successful completion our recycling training 🎉.

This August, we are very excited to kickstart the project in Susan’s Bay to continue empowering youth and women in informal settlements. Like the other two communities, Susan’s Bay needs this project due to its exposure to climate disasters.

It’s been almost one year of empowering slum communities and still counting. Ready to get back to work 💪🏾.

One year ago, we planted 800 economic trees 🌱🌱in the Grafton, Leicester, Malama, and Regent communities through the Re-afforesting Freetown City project, promoting afforestation and reforestation while reducing climate change 🌅. Today, we visited the sites and we saw that the trees are growing well. What a great job the communities are doing 👏🏾👏🏾. Thank you Global Greengrants Fund, The Nature Conservancy, and National Geographic for your support.
