In 2024, Route 360 Solutions Initiative informed United Nations Development Programme - UNDP Rome Centre and Ministero dell'Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica about empowering 250 youth and women in the Kroo Bay, Cockle Bay, and Susan’s Bay slums in Freetown City, Sierra Leone through waste management and recycling; they agreed. We officially launched the Building Climate Resilience in the Slums Project ♻️🧱, while they fund it and provide technical support.
So far, we equipped 167 young people and women in Kroo Bay and Cockle Bay; 53 were awarded certificates after successful completion our recycling training 🎉.
This August, we are very excited to kickstart the project in Susan’s Bay to continue empowering youth and women in informal settlements. Like the other two communities, Susan’s Bay needs this project due to its exposure to climate disasters.
It’s been almost one year of empowering slum communities and still counting. Ready to get back to work 💪🏾.
