Respect for Lawful Appointments and Institutional Stability in the Ministry of Petroleum
By Engr. Adriano Aleng Anei
Engineer and Concerned Citizen
I have followed with concern the reports surrounding the appointment of Hon. Achuil Akoch-Magardit as Director General for Administration and Finance in the Ministry of Petroleum and the alleged challenges preventing him from assuming his duties.
As an engineer, I strongly believe that the success of any institution depends on clear leadership structures, respect for established procedures, and adherence to lawful decisions. Whether in engineering projects, corporate organizations, or government institutions, disruption of approved processes often results in inefficiency, delays, and loss of public confidence.
The petroleum sector remains the backbone of South Sudan's economy. Therefore, stability, professionalism, and accountability within the Ministry of Petroleum are essential for the effective management of national resources.
Every public servant has a responsibility to uphold the rule of law and support the smooth implementation of decisions made by competent authorities.
If Hon. Achuil Akoch was duly appointed through the appropriate legal channels, it is important that all stakeholders respect the appointment and facilitate a smooth transition in accordance with government regulations.
Conversely, if there are concerns regarding the appointment, such matters should be addressed through lawful administrative and judicial mechanisms rather than through actions that may undermine institutional effectiveness (such as unnecessary case of Undersecretary MoP).
South Sudan is at a critical stage of nation-building. Our institutions must be guided by professionalism, transparency, and respect for government procedures.
Public offices do not belong to individuals; they belong to the people of South Sudan and must function in a manner that serves the national interest.
I respectfully call upon the relevant authorities to provide clarity on the matter and ensure that all actions taken are consistent with the laws of the Republic of South Sudan.
Such clarity will strengthen public confidence, protect institutional integrity, and reinforce the principles of good governance.
As engineers, we understand that strong foundations are necessary for every successful structure. Likewise, strong institutions can only be built upon respect for the law, accountability, and professional conduct.
May wisdom, justice, and national interest prevail in all decisions affecting our public institutions.
