Thinking of our good friend Ian today.

"A while back riding the B-line a paramedic student sat next to me on the bus, his IV bandage still in his arm.

I asked if he knew my friend Ian C**n who was also studying at JIBC and he immediately lit up, speaking highly of Ian’s medical knowledge, friendship and mentorship for many students struggling in the course — “he knew the textbook inside out, and was basically teaching us the course” he said. “Sounds like Ian” I said.

Ian dedicated his life to service, and truly epitomized what it means to be a brother in arms.
He was incredibly compassionate, intelligent and had this dry-wit and timeless cynicism that always boosted morale when the going got tough.

One of my fondest recent memories of Ian was driving home from an exercise in Chilliwack. There were two young privates in the back awkwardly sitting there silently when Bohemian Rhapsody came on the radio. Ian cued in immediately and within minutes we were all singing along on that long boring drive home. Ian always had a way of turning the mundane into something awesome.

Hearing tonight that Ian had lost his battle with mental illness left all of us in the military community shattered.

He was a dear friend and will be missed."

It's 6:00pm, Oct 10th. This time last year, Guillaume and I bubbled down 6th ave from my front porch, embarking on an eight month bicycle trip which would take us to South America.
