So, who exactly is Veles? I’m sure most people—especially Ukrainians—have heard names like Perun, Kupalo, Makosh, Dazhbog, Svarog, Veles, Mara (Morena), and so on…
In this work, I want to share my answer to the question: “Who exactly is this Veles?”

In ancient Slavic myths, Veles is the god of the forest, magic, knowledge, and abundance.
He does not sit far away in the sky. His place is here, closer to the earth: in the roots of trees, in the mist above rivers, in the dark forest.
He is often called the keeper of secrets.
The one who knows the paths between worlds—the world of humans, spirits, and ancestors.

That is why, when I carved this sculpture, I wanted to convey precisely this state:
The calm power of the forest.
Ancient wisdom.
And the feeling that nature is much older than we are.

For me, Veles is not just a mythical character.
He is a symbol of our connection to nature, craftsmanship, and the power of our ancestors.
