After more than 20 years of dedicated service, we're celebrating the retirement of a true Spear D Construction legend Tom McConnell.
Tom joined the company in September 2005 and has been a trusted estimator, teammate, and problem solver ever since. But those who know Tom know his story extends far beyond construction.
A lifelong aviation enthusiast, Tom has spent decades in the skies as both a hot air balloon pilot and an instrument-rated airplane pilot. He has participated in every Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta since 1973 and comes from a family with a rich ballooning tradition that spans multiple generations. His beloved balloon, Zia, has become a reflection of his passion for adventure and New Mexico heritage.
Outside of work, Tom is also a musician who once performed with his jazz band, Richmond Street, and recently shared that retirement may be the perfect opportunity to bring the music back.
Whether he was helping guide a project, mentoring others, sharing stories from the Balloon Fiesta, or simply bringing his steady presence to the team, Tom made an impact that extends far beyond the office and jobsite.
Tom, thank you for your dedication, friendship, and the countless contributions you've made over the years. Your legacy will continue to be felt throughout Spear D Construction for years to come.
We wish you clear skies, smooth landings, good music, and plenty of adventures in this next chapter.
Congratulations on your retirement, Tom. You've earned it.
