🌿 A little botanical weirdness in the garden…

Check out this fasciated narrowleaf milkweed (Asclepias fascicularis)!

Fasciation is a fascinating growth anomaly where the plant’s growing tip develops abnormally, causing the stem to flatten, widen, or become “crested” rather than growing in its usual form.

The result? This wonderfully strange explosion of narrowleaf milkweed growth. 🌱

It can be triggered by a number of things, including genetics, environmental stress, physical damage, or sometimes pathogens. Whatever caused this one, it’s a beautiful reminder that Nature doesn’t always follow the blueprint.

And sometimes the anomaly is the most interesting thing in the garden.

🌿 Studio Petrichor Is Looking for a Landscape Designer

Part-Time · up to 20 hrs/week to start

Remote + In-Person (Altadena / Pasadena)

Studio Petrichor creates regenerative landscapes rooted in whole-system thinking, water harvesting, habitat building, soil health, fire resilience, and restoring relationships between people and the land.

As we enter a new chapter of growth, we’re looking to connect with an experienced Landscape Designer who feels aligned with this work and values collaboration, creativity, and ecological stewardship.

You may be a great fit if you:

• Have 2–3 years of landscape design experience

• Are skilled in CAD / Land F/X and Adobe Creative Suite

• Have strong plant knowledge, especially California natives

• Enjoy contributing across design, construction observation, outreach, and creative work

• Thrive in a flexible, evolving studio environment

One of the most extraordinary bromeliads on Earth, Vriesea imperialis spent years quietly gathering energy for a single, spectacular Bloom. It flowers just once in its lifetime, set seed or produces offset, and then it’s life comes to an end. A beautiful reminder that nature measures success differently than we do. Sometimes a single moment of full expression is enough. . ✨❤️🌈
