🪵🪵🪵 ALL ABOUT WOOD QUALITY🪵🪵🪵
Even the most affordable acoustic guitars need quarter sawn woods for their tops, sides, back, necks, and fingerboards. Anything quarter sawn is already in the top tier of woods. The wood you get at the hardware store is all flat sawn stuff. Even on a $300 guitar, before you even get to the point of flexing, grading, and selecting the instrument level, acoustic guitar wood is among the most selective woods out there.
🪵 WHAT IS QUARTER SAWING?
When you cut a log into four quarters and slice the boards so the growth rings meet the face at a 60-to-90-degree angle, you get straight grain lines, high strength, and resistance to warping.
🪵 WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Every acoustic guitar is under about 180 pounds of string tension. We use these woods not only for appearance, but stability too. Without the best woods, you're going to get a twisted neck or a thick, brittle, dull-sounding top. High-quality, stable wood is key to creating an instrument that's ight, but also resonant and musical.

Janis has been a guest on the "Duos with Sean Harkness" series at Birdland, and Sean has supported Janis and her many cohorts at Vocal Mania and Vocal Gumbo.

One of Janis's gifts is finding cool songs off the beaten path. Secret Admirer is from Brian ("iKe") Eichenberger, whose groovy day job is Music Director for the Beach Boys. Sean's old friend Keith Hubacher is their bassist, so was able to speak with Brian and get his blessing for the Wow & Flutter arrangement to go to market. (Big thanks to Trist Ethan Curless for turning Janis on to Brian Eichenberger's songs.)

After the live gtr/vox duo recording, Janis stayed in the studio to *follow* her muse with backing vocals. Stepping out of our "zones" we also have Sean singing BG vox and Janis playing percussion.

The result of all this is a delightful tune we hope you enjoy listening to as much as we enjoyed making it.
