My name is Jonathan Lee and I am the President and original Founder of Walden Guitars. I created Walden Guitars in 1996 while I was building handmade guitars at CFOX Guitars, in the San Francisco area, USA. I had a major role in Walden’s design, construction, sales, marketing as well as managing our factory in China. Our team built the Walden brand into quite a respected brand with numerous positi

ve reviews, satisfied dealers and customers, and over 70 distributors worldwide. In 2014, KHS, Walden’s owner, decided to cease production and I moved on to work with Breedlove Guitars and Washburn Guitars. I always felt the Walden story was not over and in 2019 obtained all rights to Walden Guitars. Year 2020 marked our re-release of these fine instruments and I hope that you will be part of our continuing story. Our mission. Has always been to create guitars with the absolute best balance of Musicality, Stability, Cosmetics and Affordability; a merging of expertise in USA design and manufacturing with Asian efficiency and affordability. Design. A great guitar is informed by the whole, not any one feature or material. When the minutia come together to create an instrument that is “just right,” this is a Walden. It comes down to features that you can’t see such as Walden’s Graphite and glass-fibre reinforced necks (normally seen only on hand-made instruments) and Low-Mass voiced scalloped-X bracing resulting in instruments with a tonal complexity and immediacy that is exceptional. Premier features such as the Laskin/Ryan inspired ergonomic armrest bevel are built into select instruments. Trust. With our expertise in manufacturing and sourcing, we ensure cosmetic excellence and stability. Partnerships with D’Addario, Fishman Transducers, and Graphtech NuBone nuts and saddles & Ratio-tuned tuners further enhance the trustworthiness of a Walden. I invite you to take a walk through the following pages where you will find descriptions of Walden's 2020 lineup including some of our historically most popular models. It is my hope that you will find inspiration and that we work together once again. Welcome back! Sincerely,
Jonathan Lee

🪵🪵🪵 ALL ABOUT WOOD QUALITY🪵🪵🪵
Even the most affordable acoustic guitars need quarter sawn woods for their tops, sides, back, necks, and fingerboards. Anything quarter sawn is already in the top tier of woods. The wood you get at the hardware store is all flat sawn stuff. Even on a $300 guitar, before you even get to the point of flexing, grading, and selecting the instrument level, acoustic guitar wood is among the most selective woods out there.
🪵 WHAT IS QUARTER SAWING?
When you cut a log into four quarters and slice the boards so the growth rings meet the face at a 60-to-90-degree angle, you get straight grain lines, high strength, and resistance to warping.
🪵 WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Every acoustic guitar is under about 180 pounds of string tension. We use these woods not only for appearance, but stability too. Without the best woods, you're going to get a twisted neck or a thick, brittle, dull-sounding top. High-quality, stable wood is key to creating an instrument that's ight, but also resonant and musical.

The D550E and the G570CE are two of our most popular guitars. We get a lot of questions from guitarists choosing between the two models, so here's a breakdown:

"I always tell everybody: I will put my Waldens against anything. You know, I don't really see myself going and dropping thousands of dollars on a U.S.-made, big name acoustic guitar when I have acoustic guitars now that satisfy everything that I'm looking for. They have the sound, the feel, the style."

Walden artist Sean Harkness Music has a new project called Wow & Flutter with Janis Siegel. Sounds great! Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wuVs7SJWo8

Here's what he has to say about it:

Janis has been a guest on the "Duos with Sean Harkness" series at Birdland, and Sean has supported Janis and her many cohorts at Vocal Mania and Vocal Gumbo.

One of Janis's gifts is finding cool songs off the beaten path. Secret Admirer is from Brian ("iKe") Eichenberger, whose groovy day job is Music Director for the Beach Boys. Sean's old friend Keith Hubacher is their bassist, so was able to speak with Brian and get his blessing for the Wow & Flutter arrangement to go to market. (Big thanks to Trist Ethan Curless for turning Janis on to Brian Eichenberger's songs.)

After the live gtr/vox duo recording, Janis stayed in the studio to *follow* her muse with backing vocals. Stepping out of our "zones" we also have Sean singing BG vox and Janis playing percussion.

The result of all this is a delightful tune we hope you enjoy listening to as much as we enjoyed making it.

A single note can say so much.

To celebrate the last day of our campfire sale (*hint hint*), here's Jonathan around a campfire teaching a friend's 16 year old daughter a finger picking style called Travis Picking which is basically "thumb 1-middle-thumb 2-index." She rocked it, and after learning, immediately proceeded to play Landslide by Stevie Nicks on her G550RE. She also tells us how learning to play guitar on a Walden helped her guitar journey: it was easier to play well and more fun because she sounded better earlier.

You have until midnight Pacific tonight to save 25% on any Walden Guitar with the code CAMPFIRE.

This is the moment that so many Walden players have experienced... the moment when you put a Walden up against guitars that cost 5 times, even 10 times, as much and then you still like the way the Walden played the most. If you want to recreate this moment for yourself, you can find a list of dealers on our website. But we aren't widely distributed, which is why we started our online store so we can get a Walden in your hands (at least in the continental US, for now). Thanks to Gustavo Ramos for chatting with us and being such a loyal Walden fan!

Because our reason for being is high-quality but affordable guitars, we don't run sales that often. Our guitars range between $199 and $1,199 normally, which is way lower than you can find features like an armrest, reinforced neck, and low-mass bracing otherwise. But to celebrate summer and all the good music that comes with it, we are giving you an extra 25% off all our models. So please do visit shop.waldenguitars.com and use the code CAMPFIRE at checkout. We're a small, American business and appreciate your support.
