Don’t Make the Wildfire Smoke Worse Inside Your Home
With the smoke affecting our area today, we’ve had a few people ask if they should turn on bathroom fans, kitchen exhaust fans, or whole-house fans to clear the air.
The answer is NO!
Those fans exhaust air from your home, creating a slight vacuum inside. That replacement air has to come from somewhere, and it often gets pulled in through small cracks and gaps around your home, bringing even more smoky air inside.
Here’s what we recommend instead:
-Keep all windows and exterior doors closed.
-Avoid running exhaust fans unless you absolutely need them.
-Run your air conditioner and, if possible, set the thermostat fan to ON so your HVAC system continuously filters the air.
-Make sure your air filter is clean. A quality pleated filter does a much better job capturing fine particles than a basic fiberglass filter.
A lot of people think of their HVAC system as just cooling the house, but it’s also one of the best tools you have for improving your indoor air quality during smoky conditions.
Stay safe out there, everyone. If you have questions about your HVAC system or indoor air quality, the team at Comfort Cavalry Heating & Air is here to help.
