What is one part of your business you actually enjoy doing, even if nobody else sees it?

What is one local business you have had a great experience with recently?

Today is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., thousands of collection locations around the country will accept unneeded and expired prescription medications for safe disposal.

This is one of those small household safety tasks that is easy to put off. Old prescriptions end up sitting in medicine cabinets, bathroom drawers, toolboxes, vehicles, and other places long after they are needed. Safely getting rid of them reduces the chance of accidental poisoning, misuse, or medication ending up in the wrong hands.

If you have been meaning to clean out the medicine cabinet, today is a good excuse to actually do it. The DEA has a locator available to find participating collection sites near you.

Sometimes prevention really is as simple as taking care of the things sitting around our own homes.

What are you proud of accomplishing this week, even if it was something small?

Careers in Construction Month is also a good time to talk about the importance of career and technical education.

Not every student learns best by sitting at a desk all day, and that does not mean they are less capable. For a lot of students, things start to click when they are able to work with their hands, use tools, solve real problems and see the result of what they are learning.

Vo tech programs, shop classes and career education can introduce students to welding, electrical work, carpentry, HVAC, automotive work, machining and many other skilled careers long before they are expected to decide what they want to do with the rest of their lives.

Those programs should not be treated like a second tier option. They give students a chance to build practical skills, earn certifications and discover strengths they may never find in a traditional classroom.

The earlier we expose young people to different career paths, the better chance they have of finding one that actually fits them.

What is one goal you are taking with you into next week?

For a lot of small businesses, social media is one of the most important ways customers find them. That also makes those accounts valuable targets!!

Protect business pages with strong passwords, two factor authentication, and limited admin access. Be careful with messages claiming your page has violated a policy or will be deleted unless you click a link immediately. Those scams are extremely common. It is also worth checking who currently has access to your business pages and removing old employees, former helpers, or anyone who no longer needs administrator permissions.

Protecting your page is part of protecting your business!!

If you could make one part of running your business easier, what would it be?

10/22/2026

October is National Protect Your Hearing Month, and hearing protection is one of those pieces of PPE that can be easy to underestimate until the damage has already been done.

Construction sites, fabrication shops, grinders, saws, heavy equipment, power tools and other everyday parts of the trades can expose workers to damaging levels of noise. Unlike a cut or burn that you notice immediately, noise-related hearing damage can build slowly over time. Once that hearing is gone, it may not come back.

Hearing protection is not only about being able to hear years from now. Being able to hear equipment, alarms, instructions and the people working around you is also part of staying safe on the job today.

Wear the earplugs. Wear the earmuffs. Give your ears a break from unnecessary noise when you can. Protecting your hearing deserves the same attention as protecting your eyes, hands and lungs.
