Luna and Astra specialized in sniff testing; we hired them for quality control. So far they approved the paint color, denied the mailman, and requested more treats. Paid in belly rubs.

Behind every clean line, tight schedule, and calm jobsite is a leadership team that actually shows up.

That’s me, Damian Schlereth, CEO of At Ease Painting, alongside Joel Booth, our COO. Also pictured are our wives, who politely tolerate our obsession with process, standards, and why “close enough” is never close enough.

At Ease Painting was built on the idea that professionalism shouldn’t be rare in the trades. Clear communication. Accountability. Pride in the work. Respect for the people trusting us with their properties.

We’re not a logo (but we have a pretty cool one). We’re not a franchise stereotype. We’re a locally rooted team, raising families here in Arvada, running projects here on the Front Range, and standing behind the work with our names on it.

When leadership is present, standards stay high.
When standards stay high, clients feel it.

How old is your home?

If your house has seen more birthdays than your dog, congratulations. You probably own real craftsmanship. You also probably own peeling paint, tired plaster, and wood trim that has been quietly begging for help.

Older homes come with character you can’t buy anymore, but that character demands respect. You don’t just slap paint on it and call it a day. You slow down. You repair what time has worn down. You prep properly. You fix the stuff no one notices until it fails.

On this home, that meant stabilizing peeling areas, repairing plaster, restoring exterior woodwork, and then protecting everything with a durable, high-quality paint system chosen to suit the age and materials of the house.

The result isn’t flashy. It’s correct. The kind of work that lets a historic home keep doing its job for decades instead of limping along until the next problem shows up.

Good homes age. Great homes are maintained.

The dog was the first to notice something was different.

Couches wrapped like leftovers. Floors disappeared under plastic. Stairs sealed off step by step. From his perspective, the house looked like it was being abducted by professionals.

This is the part of an interior project most people don’t think about until they’re living in it.

Before any paint goes on, the real work is protecting everything that’s staying. Floors, railings, furniture, light fixtures, corners that only catch your eye once they’re wrong. Prep isn’t glamorous, but it’s the difference between a clean finish and a house that feels “almost right.”

Color behaves differently once the room is empty. Light moves. Shadows change. What looks subtle on day one becomes obvious once the furniture comes back and life resumes.

By the time the plastic comes off, the chaos disappears, and even the dog relaxes again, the result feels effortless. That’s not luck. That’s discipline, patience, and doing the boring parts well so no one ever has to think about them again.

He’ll forgive us eventually. The house already has.

Crowdsourcing your house color is one way to do it.

Another is understanding how light, materials, and surroundings actually affect color once it’s on the wall. That’s why we offer free color consultations with an experienced, in-person design consultant. Less guessing. Fewer tally marks. Better results.

People don’t always see what actually keeps a company steady as it grows. Titles matter less than trust, discipline, and follow-through.

Joel Booth is our COO and the person who sets the tone at At Ease Painting.

Joel is a former Navy Corpsman who served alongside Marines in Afghanistan. Combat wounded. Purple Heart recipient. Comes from a family of military service. If you know anything about Corpsmen, you know they don’t look for credit. They look for responsibility. Joel brings that same mindset to everything he does here.

As COO, he’s our fearless leader. He keeps teams aligned, holds standards when things get busy, and makes sure problems are handled early, not explained away later. Calm under pressure. Clear in communication. Relentless about doing things the right way.

He’s also a husband and dad and step-dad to three amazing girls, which somehow makes him even more disciplined with time, priorities, and people.

At At Ease, we talk a lot about accountability and ex*****on. Joel lives it. The company is stronger because he’s here, and our clients benefit from it every day.

Denver is one of the toughest environments in the country for exterior paint.

At over a mile high, the thinner atmosphere means stronger UV exposure. That sun breaks down paint binders faster and fades color far sooner than most people expect. What lasts 8–10 years in other parts of the country often shows wear here in 5–7 years, sometimes sooner.

Daily temperature swings don’t help. It’s common to see 30–40 degree shifts between night and day along the Front Range. Siding and trim expand and contract constantly, stressing paint adhesion and leading to cracking and peeling over time.

Our dry climate adds another challenge. Low humidity causes paint to dry too quickly, which can prevent proper leveling and bonding. Even when it looks fine at first, that rushed cure can shorten the life of the finish.

Winter freeze–thaw cycles, snow, wind, and summer hail finish the job. Moisture works into small gaps, freezes, expands, and slowly pushes paint off the surface.

The result is simple: in the Denver Metro and Front Range, most homes need repainting every 5–7 years. Builder-grade paints often fail even faster.

This isn’t about painting more often. It’s about using high-quality, UV-resistant 100 percent acrylic paints, proper surface prep, and applying coatings under the right conditions so they can handle the sun, movement, and weather we live with here.

Denver is a great place to live. It’s just not easy on buildings.

I don’t know what it is about this bathroom, but it just works. Clean lines. Fresh tin on the walls. Mixed materials. It screams Rocky Mountain High.

Cabinets so fresh, they'll make you forget about the pizza boxes and takeout containers hiding in the old ones 😂. Huge props to the crew for the ninja-like speed and skill - in and out in three days, with results that are basically a kitchen facelift!
