Our apprentice Gaige was selected as welding student of the term at his evening school classes.

We finally got the time and money to put the second welding truck together.

Wanted this project done last month, but money got tight, a few new projects kicked off, and new employees started, so delayed gratification took over.

Today we added a ladder rack, permanently mounted the welder and jack, and installed lockable jerry cans for fuel. Oh, and we installed the new truck decals.

Meet the Clipinator 3000—built for the kind of production welding that has to be fast but also have repeatable accuracy.

We were tasked with an order for 5,000 climbing clips that require the nut tack-welded to the back of each clip. The tack weld is the key step: it keeps the nut securely positioned with the clip until the final installation.

This fixture makes that job repeatable.
Accurate alignment: It centers the clip to the nut every time, so placement stays consistent across the full run.

Positive fixturing during weld: The toggle clamp locks the assembly together during tack welding, reducing part movement.

Thread protection: The clamping geometry helps shield the threads from weld spatter, improving finish quality and lowering post-work.

Result: a streamlined process that supports throughput, consistency, and stronger fit-up from start to finish.

By fixturing, our inspection firm Clover Field Services LLC will have a much faster throughput rate than a more traditional approach.

We picked up a new to us, 400 amp diesel tow-behind welder. This bigger machine allows us to switch from SMAW (Stick) to FCAW (flux-core).

The higher deposition rate of FCAW will help with a repair welding job we picked up. We have a Lincoln Electric LN-25x suitcase welder that will be connected to the Miller Electric Trailblazer 55D power source for FCAW welding.

We knocked out three Welding training/testing booths. Our team took the clients design, created the shop drawings, sourced the materials, created the cut lists, issued materials, performed shop operations (cutting/fitting/welding/inspection/painting/reinspection).

All of these are normal operations, but are done out of the limelight. When you see a finished product, often, it is hard to see the work.

We had a custom project pop up: welding test booths for a local fabrication shop that is planning to grow its workforce.

This series is the first three. At 4 feet wide and 4 feet deep, there is ample room to move around. The 6-foot-6-inch-tall sides help keep the sparks and light in the booth.

A little more welding, painting them black, and adding the welding curtains, and they are done.

Progress has been made on the welding skid we are putting together. The goal is to be able to drag this around the yard or on the road when we have outdoor projects.

We were given a brand-new welder and found a use for it by making it a dedicated station.

We added a side bracket to fit the tacking welding station. The bracket provides a supporting shelf to hold the machine and has tool holes built into it.

With a 0.035” self-shielded flux core electrode and 110 volt power required, it works great for tack welding the dumpster skins. ,
