We were given a brand-new welder and found a use for it by making it a dedicated station.

We added a side bracket to fit the tacking welding station. The bracket provides a supporting shelf to hold the machine and has tool holes built into it.

With a 0.035” self-shielded flux core electrode and 110 volt power required, it works great for tack welding the dumpster skins. ,

One of our recent repair dumpsters came in with over 2 inches of deflection in the trunnion bar (the part that hooks to the truck).

To meet the challenge, we fabricated a steel beam that allows us to use a hydraulic ram to correct the distortion.

Now that we see the beam method works, we will add stiffeners and additional plating to ensure continued safety and use for years to come.

Knocked out a few shop projects yesterday. In one of the projects, we got these pipe rollers from a tech school auction for $22.50 for all ten units.

Took them apart to find bronze bushings inside. We salvaged all the hardware except one set, which needed to be swapped out; we upgraded that set to 304SS.

A coat of rattle can black, dressing the wheel face with a flapper disk grinder, and now they are ready for some pipe welding.

Christian and Jacob jumped over to help some friends get caught up on some sheet piling. These sheet have 1.5 inch thick plates added to the for rigidity. The welds are full-length wrap-around and were made with Flux Cored Arc Welding.

We had a few minutes tonight to paint this repaired dumpster. It had been completely rebuilt on the bottom, including replacing the base channel the wheels are mounted on.

Just waiting on the new stickers and then this batch is ready to head to the field.

Here's a before-and-after look at the dumpster rebuild. The first can is rebuilt and painted; it's just waiting on the stickers, then back to the field.

The stickers go in the same spots, so although the surface was DA sanded, the adhesive shows through the new paint.

The work is not sexy but it is still work. We were able to save this 2-yard dumpster from the scrap yard by cutting out all of the rot and plating it with new steel.

Up next, new wheels and a coat of paint around the repair.

We spent this past weekend helping a client get some more material to the field. The pictures shown here are of weld splicing two W36x328 beams.

A W36x328 has a depth of 37.125”, fl**ge width of 16.625”, fl**ge thickness of 1.875”, but the weight once joined was about 20,500 pounds.

Sadly, this phase of their contract is nearing completion. Although we may be tired, we have enjoyed this project.

It may not look like much, but these four beams are worth about $1,400 retail.

For us, it is the beginning of our planned lay-down area. This installment will give us 12 feet by 30 feet of flat and true lay-down across its width and length.

Once complete, the goal is to have an area 12 feet by 120 feet, which will give us multiple fabrication stations for larger pieces that we do not want to pull into the shop.

It was another beautiful weekend helping a fabricator catch up on their schedule. We did so well that we have next weekend off, and they have time to move some work around without the pressures of missed deadlines.
