⚡ NE GA WEATHER UPDATE: Severe Risk Tonight & Your Sunday Morning Forecast ⚡
Storms are beginning to develop across Northeast Georgia this evening. As a reminder, our region is currently under a Level 1 (out of 5) 🟢 Marginal Risk for severe weather.
We want to lead with some reassurance for those who experience severe weather anxiety, particularly regarding tornadoes: widespread severe weather is not anticipated tonight, and the overall tornado risk remains extremely low. While meteorologists can never completely rule out a brief, isolated spin-up along a strong storm front (which is why the risk is mathematically not zero), the atmospheric ingredients needed for sustained tornadic activity are largely absent tonight. We really do not see tornadoes forming with this system, so you can rest easy and get a peaceful night's sleep.
🗓️ Timing & Main Threats Tonight
The main window for scattered clusters to push through will be over the next several hours, tapering off through the overnight. Rather than rotating storms, our primary focus tonight will be on:
💨 Damaging Wind Gusts: Isolated strong winds within the heaviest storm clusters.
🌧️ Localized Flash Flooding: Heavy downpours over already-saturated ground.
⚡ Frequent Lightning: High-frequency cloud-to-ground lightning.
⛪ Sunday Morning Service Forecast
If you are heading out to church services or morning activities tomorrow, the bulk of tonight's severe threat will have completely passed. Expect cloudy skies with a few lingering, non-severe showers and cooler morning temperatures in the low-to-mid 60s. You may want to carry an umbrella to your early services, but you will not need to worry about severe weather or storm hazards on the roads tomorrow morning.
Our team is fully activated and spread out from Greenville to Gwinnett monitoring these cells as they develop. We have eyes on the radar and on the ground to keep you Safe, Informed & Ahead of the storm™.
