Sometimes, you just gotta work with what you have. The month of April and most of this month (and it’s not even over 😅) was incredibly busy for me. I’ve already installed well over 150 hives for Grateful Bees (which is JUST ME, btw) and that does not include the hives installed for Two Hives or the second batch of bees I pick up next week.
Many may envy my job, but many don’t realize the amount of sweat, stings, physical strength, and perseverance you have to have to be a full time AG beekeeper.
I’ve been at this for almost 7 years now and I still can’t say “I’ve seen it all”, but is it worth it? To me, absolutely. This is not for everyone. I’ve seen folks become “bee-havers” real quick. For me, it’s just embedded in life now and everything revolves around the bees. Literally. Vacations? Let me make sure it’s not in bee season. Weekends? Huh? I work those like they’re weekdays. Want to go out late? Sorry, can’t I have to be up in morning cause I have 5 routes to do tomorrow.
People are so quick to think that beekeepers just play all day (well, kinda 😜) but it’s hard work and sometimes we don’t get the credit we deserve, especially when people want something FREE.
Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk.
