Heads up North Texas, not exactly what Mom wanted for Mothers Day, I’m sure of it! 😬👀

Active Sunday Ahead For Strong To Severe Storms On Mothers Day.

Not the best day for all the moms out there.

A very early complex of storms will drop
Southeast out of Oklahoma and impact Northeast Texas before sunrise.

Later Sunday afternoon the main event will begin to develop as a strong disturbance arrives ahead of a front. From Northwest to Southeast.

For North Texas

Main timeframe 3pm to 10pm
Large hail up to 2” in diameter
Winds up to 70mph strongest storms
Tornado risk is low , not zero.
Strongest storms western parts of metro

A squall line forms later in the evening into Central Texas as a damaging wind threat increases. Overall widespread impacts in some form across Texas.

Monday behind the front is much nicer with low 80s and mostly sunny skies.

Friends / Family in or around Oklahoma and North East Texas can expect another afternoon of strong / severe weather!

Severe Risk Upgrade…

Moderate risk upgrade for Oklahoma with a significant severe weather risk. Late this afternoon the atmosphere will be capable of strong tornadoes 🌪️, baseball ⚾️ hail and 80mph winds.

North East into East Texas tonight 8pm to 2am. These storms could even be stronger than last night in East Texas. Some baseball ⚾️ hail potential, tornadoes and even a strong tornado 🌪️ possible with 70+mph Texas.

For North Texas it’s the same dynamics. Strong CAP during the day. As we warm to 90 and the dryline moves in the CAP becomes very weak. It fully held yesterday. It may not hold for everyone today. One or two storms North of I-30 to the Red River could develop after 5pm this afternoon into the early evening. If those are able to break the CAP they would turn severe very quickly with large hail , damaging winds and tornado risk.

Everyone sees a light show tonight with towering 60,000 foot clouds to be seen over 100 miles away.

Stay weather aware especially in Oklahoma and East Texas tonight. For North Texas most won’t see anything. I have an event tonight and plans for my birthday. I’ll do my best to keep you updated.
