💥Project Spotlight: The Schulte Music Room — Precision Acoustic Architecture on Bainbridge Island💥
Building a standard home addition is all about form, flow, and structural integrity. But creating a dedicated, world-class recording and listening environment? That requires something more: an obsession with sound physics and millimeter-level framing accuracy.
We are thrilled to share the completion of the Schulte Music Room, a custom two-story, 800-square-foot professional music studio addition built right here on Bainbridge Island. From structural steel to acoustic dampening, every single design choice was driven by the science of optimizing sound.
The Architecture: Eliminating Parallel Surfaces
In professional acoustics, 90-degree corners and flat parallel walls are the enemy of true tone—they trap flutter echoes and generate standing waves. To create an organic, balanced listening field, our framing crew threw out standard right angles in favor of complex, multi-directional geometries:
Pie-Shaped Architectural Ceiling: Featuring an intricate array of hip rafters set at varying pitches, engineered to diffuse acoustic energy evenly throughout the room.
Cantilevered Structural Beam: Anchored over an exposed steel post, this heavy timber system allows for dramatic, open spans without sacrificing load-bearing stability.
Non-Parallel Wall Framing: Multi-directional wall planes framed at calculated angles to naturally scatter sound reflections before they bounce back to the listener.
