Florida customers: hurricane season opened June 1. If a storm is approaching, here's what to do with your elevator before it hits.

1. Park the elevator on an upper floor.
2. Close all gates and doors.
3. Turn off the elevator disconnects — both the 220V and the 110V.
4. Turn off the battery backup.
5. Make sure you have your service company's contact information saved before the storm — not after.

That's it. Takes five minutes. Do it every time a storm is in the cone, not just the big ones.
