Two questions that come up in almost every consultation: how does it move, and how much space does it take up?

Plain answer: we work with both hydraulic and electric inline gear machine systems.

Hydraulic is proven and reliable. But our preference is electric — no oil in the home, no potential for leaks, smaller footprint, and significantly better for flood zones.

For coastal homes in New Jersey and Florida especially, that last point matters. Flood elevation requirements are real. An electric system removes a variable you don't want to think about after a storm.

Neither system is wrong. But when a customer asks what we'd put in our shore home, the answer is electric.

Florida customers: hurricane season opened June 1. If a storm is approaching, here's what to do with your elevator before it hits.

1. Park the elevator on an upper floor.
2. Close all gates and doors.
3. Turn off the elevator disconnects — both the 220V and the 110V.
4. Turn off the battery backup.
5. Make sure you have your service company's contact information saved before the storm — not after.

That's it. Takes five minutes. Do it every time a storm is in the cone, not just the big ones.
