Arthur, What A Strange Storm

Tropical storm Arthur made landfall somewhere around Corpus Christi, Texas yesterday.

Arthur, originated in Central America about a week ago. It traveled northwestern into northern Mexico and Southern Texas and is now somewhere around the northern Louisiana, Mississippi border.

Down here in Belle Chasse, the winds are stronger now than they have been at any point during this event. The atmospheric pressure is well below 30 in., and squalls containing high winds are still moving through.

The storm also spawned many tornadoes from Terrebonne Parish all the way to St Tammany Parish.

How can it be, that the center of the storm, located over 400 mi away, over land, is still pulling enough moisture from the Gulf of Mexico to cause high wind damage and torrential rains that are expected all the way to the Carolinas?

Global warming is real!

Just a few years ago, a small tropical storm of this size, with this center displaced hundreds of miles away from the actual effects, causing severe wind damage and flooding events, would have never happened.

Given the current political climate, with the political leaders aligned to dismiss any sort of weather change caused by global warming, these types of events will surely repeat theirselves...........

Plaquemines is Awarded $744 million

A jury, in April found Chevron and Texaco liable for damages to the Louisiana coastline in the amount of

$744,000,000

This landmark jury decision, alleges that Chevron, through Texaco violated numerous regulatory and coastal zone management laws in their drilling operations dating back to World War II.

It has been a long time in coming but finally a jury has passed a verdict that the public will not tolerate oil companies to destroy what's left of our coastline, no matter how much positive economic impact it has on our Parish on the short term.

The long-term affects on our Parish marshes, which provide a vital defense against title surges during hurricanes, and also provide a bountiful seafood industry for the parish, will not be tolerated.

It will be interesting to see how Plaquemines Parish chooses to spend the $744, 000,000 if the appeals court uphold the lower courts jury verdict.

Uh-oh Coach "O"

Coach O is back at LSU!

LSU signed a contract with coach Orgeron recently for 8 months valued at $100,000!

That's a serious cut and pay. For an ex LSU head coach that recently got the final payment on a $17 million buyout to get him out of LSU, through any door he could find

Now he's back. Does anyone really think Coach O will only have an assistant recruiting role at LSU? Giving his dynamic personality, he will have to have his hands in the playbook for LSU football.

This is all very interesting. What is the master plan for LSU football? If the new coach for LSU loses three games in a row this year, will Coach Orgeron become the head coach next year?

Or will Coach Orgeron be let go after 8 months if he turns his Cajun loose again?.....,........

Brown Shrimp!

Without a doubt, the tastiest shrimp in all of Louisiana marshes!

There are a few brownies on the West Bank of Plaquemines Parish, but they're not everywhere.

Opening day we caught about 20 lbs behind Lake Hermitage. But we really had to work for it.

Today we tried behind Port Sulphur and had better results. After 3 , 30 minute drags with a 16-footer, we ended up with about 70 lb of mixed shrimp.

There were no other sport or commercial shrimpers insight, all day.

This truly is a lost culture.

In years past, you could have walked from boat to boat from Lafitte all the way to Empire.

Oh well! Less competition....

Louisiana Traditional Boat Builders

Today on Bayou Lafourche, there were demonstrations of traditional handmade wooden boats

There were pirogues, putt putts and dugouts on display and in the water.

They're also was a pirogue race, and an exhibition of an artisan making handmade wooden paddles.

Nice to see there still are Craftsman that continue the legacy of hand laid traditional Cypress wooden boats.

Good times to be had on the Bayou....

Trickle Down Economy

$4.13 for a loaf of local French bread.

6 months ago the same French bread sold for $3. 2 years ago it sold for $2.

So why the large increase in price? Trickle down economy. The Republican way.....

The cost of fuel to deliver has gone up 80% since the Trump war started, even though we have not imported a single barrel of oil from overseas. As a matter of fact we produce more oil in the United States then we use. And have been doing so since the Biden administration.

The price of imported goods have gone up considerably, in some cases the cost is doubled because of the tariffs, "taxes" Trump has put on goods from overseas.

The tires on the delivery trucks, the racks to hold the bread on a delivery truck, and probably even the plastic wrap that the French bread is enclosed in, probably comes from overseas and is being taxed at a very high percentage and that tax is passed on to you, me, and every consumer.

Trickle down economy..... The price increase on all imported items and the increase in fuel cost, has trickle down to the consumer, you and me!

The voters wanted a change in the White House, and they got it!

Trying to Access Barriere Road

Have you tried to get out onto Barriere Road 7:00 in the morning or 4:00 in the evening? It seems to get worse by the day.
Did the air base hire more employees?

Barriere Road was never designed to handle the volume of traffic that Alvin Calendar Field employees' vehicles are putting on the 2 laned subdivision Access Road.

4 years ago I asked the commanding officer what she planned to do to alleviate the anticipated increased traffic on this 2 lane Road?

She said, "I am not responsible for the military traffic once it leaves the base".

Last week I sent an email to the parish president.

The response I got was " the parish is not responsible for traffic entering and leaving the air base".

Everyone is passing the Buck, the parish said it's the military traffic problem, and the military said they're not responsible once the people leave the base.

Who is responsible? DOTD?

In 2025, cameras were installed at various locations on Barriere road, and vehicle counting cables laid across the asphalt counted vehicles as they passed.

What were the results of that survey? What was the count of vehicles? What is the count of vehicles now?

At this point nothing else matters but to reduce the congestion that is being caused by allowing an additional 5,000 vehicles a day to access a neighborhood Road that was never meant to handle that kind of volume.!!

I was calling for a plan 4 years ago. I was asking for a 4 Lane Road to be installed before the rear gate became the main gate for the air base.

Wonder what it will take now to rectify this problem?

Several deadly accidents?

Perhaps......
