We often don’t talk about the service side of things, but maintaining these systems is just as important as installing them! 🛠️
Today we looked at a Hellenbrand Iron Curtain system that was running non-stop. Once we took it apart, the culprit was clear, the seal stack assembly was completely packed with rust and iron buildup.
Here is what we did to get everything back in top shape. We replaced the worn, rusty seal stack assembly with a new one.
Thoroughly scrubbed and cleaned out heavy iron accumulation inside the valve.
Cleaned out the clogged injector on the water softener to ensure proper draw and cycle performance.
Even high-performance iron filters need routine maintenance to keep running efficiently. If your system is constantly running or water quality seems off, a quick valve service can make all the difference!

We talk a lot about brand-new installations, but keeping existing systems running at 100% through smart equipment repairs and upgrades is just as important!
Today’s stops showed two very different sides of water treatment maintenance:
Stop 1 in Genoa, Illinois
We checked on a softener that was cycling properly and leak-free. The homeowner wanted to refresh their setup, so we performed a full tank replacement and re-bed. The valve was still in great shape, so swapping out the tank got everything running like new again without the cost of a full system replacement! 💧
Stop 2 Rental Property
The landlord was hoping for a simple re-bed as well, but this system needed a bit more attention. Once we opened it up, we found leaking pistons and heavy internal rust buildup inside the old valve assembly.
To keep things budget-friendly while solving the problem long-term, we installed a refurbished Clack control valve and upgraded them to a larger tank. Sizing up gives the system significantly more capacity to handle the heavy iron and rust load, keeping high-quality soft water flowing for the tenants.

Today we uncovered some hidden Issues in South Beloit, Illinois.
This homeowner reached out thinking their water softener was on the fritz. Interestingly enough, when we performed a water test, it actually showed the water was testing soft!
However, once we started taking things apart, the real story emerged. The outer jacket/sleeve was completely flooded with standing water, something that should never happen. Slow leaks over time caused extensive salt and mineral buildup down the entire tank.
On top of that, the old 3-valve bypass setup had completely seized up, making it impossible to service or isolate properly.
Sometimes you don't realize how severe the damage is until you tear the unit down completely.
We swapped out the failing unit for a brand-new, high-efficiency water softener and replaced the old valves with a new, heavy-duty 3-valve bypass assembly complete with smooth-operating ball valves.
This customer is completely set up with clean, soft water and zero leak worries for years to come! 💧🛠️

Is your toilet tank hiding a slimy secret? 🚽🤢
If the inside of your tank looks like these photos, you are dealing with iron bacteria.
These harmless (but nasty!) microorganisms feed on dissolved iron in well water, producing a gelatinous bio-slime that clogs fill valves, destroys flapper seals, and causes foul odors.

The EPA recommends testing private wells annually for contamination and water quality issues.
Water research extensions (like UGA & Penn State) advise shock-chlorinating your well once a year to kill off biofilm and keep bacteria from taking over your plumbing lines.
🛠 The Fix is drain the tank and scrub away the buildup with a bleach solution.
Shock the Well. Treat your well casing with a high-concentration chlorine flush to kill the source.

From low pressure & iron stains ➡️ high efficiency & high flow! 🚰✨
What started as a quick under the sink RO install on Saturday turned into solving a bigger headache for this homeowner. After hearing about poor water pressure and persistent toilet staining, we pressure-tested the lines and found their old softener was severely restricting flow.
Today, we came back and upgraded them to our High-Efficiency Water Softener, fully calibrated to handle iron issues alongside hardness.
