India Denali Designs Hand Painted Silk Scarves by Lisa Chitwood I've been in love with art for years, as many of you know. That scarf now hangs in my living room.

Art was the first class I felt a deep and profound connection in, it was like meeting myself and knowing I always wanted to do this, paint, draw, create, laugh, and lose myself to the creative collective. My first silk painting class was in 2000, my Mom signed up for a class at the now gone "Mountain Country Mercantile." After much hemming and hawing I finally agreed to go and discovered I really

liked it! I walked into that class without any idea what to do, and 5 hours later walked out with a scarf in hand. It was extremely fast paced and we had to use inferior quality dyes but I have a beautiful scarf with 4 African Oryx walking across it. Between 2000 and now, I took a few years off (8 or so) and in 2010 found a used professional steamer, and I started thinking about painting silk professionally. So far I work slowly and methodically and love to watch the colors flow on the fabric. For those who paint it is like painting a watercolor painting just 10 times harder. (because the dye doesn't stop moving for 10 minutes or so, it will continue to change and shift until it is dry)

My inspiration is nature, color, music, language, imagination, dance, ancient cave art to present day artists, space images and much more. It's a fun process with many steps involved. I have a few patterns (like the wolves and quilt blocks) but I also like to draw freehand on the silk. Every scarf is unique even if I follow a pattern I drew, the colors will always be different.

The sun has been so lovely, it was perfect for taking some photos of the latest scarves on the new manikin I just added to my studio. Hope you like them!

From the studio, playful scarves. Just playin' around and drawing on the silk, each is one of a kind.

I am super-duper thrilled to have finished the poppy scarf below. This scarf turned out so much better than I ever imagined it would, a thrilling feeling to be sure! It is a commission for friends in NE Oregon.
