I’m getting ready for the American Impressionist Society Paint Out this week!

If you’re not familiar with a paint out, it’s essentially a plein air painting event—artists painting on site, directly from the landscape rather than working from photographs in the studio.

From Wednesday through Saturday, artists from across the country—including some of the nation’s leading impressionist painters—will be out painting throughout Central Oregon. I’m thrilled to be among them, interpreting the landscapes we’re lucky enough to call home.

I’ve got 11 freshly prepared panels ready to go, and now comes the fun part: taking them out into the landscape and seeing what happens!

On Saturday, one of my paintings will join the freshly completed work in the AIS Wet Wall at Mockingbird Gallery. And yes, Wet Wall is quite literal: these are paintings brought straight from the easels, freshly completed and, in some cases, with the paint still wet on the canvas.

Come see what artists from near and far see in our local landscape.

All of the paintings will be available for purchase.

Wet Wall: Saturday, September 5 • 11 AM–6 PM
Reception, judging & awards: 4:30–6 PM
Mockingbird Gallery • Bend, Oregon

I’d love to see you there!

Bidding is open! Check out the online gallery guide for Art in the West at the High Desert Museum. Get a preview of the work, then head down to the museum to see these masterful works in person. Trust me, they look much better in person, and the museum is top notch.https://hdm-cdn.mux.earth/documents/DEV_AIW26_Gallery_Guide_full_7_15a.pdf

Between Wind and Endurance
Oil on panel, 24" × 13"

This painting was inspired by the wide-open country of Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge in southeastern Oregon. In this landscape, the wind is a constant companion, shaping the grasses, the sagebrush, and the lives of everything that calls it home.

I wanted to capture that quiet resilience—the feeling of standing in an ancient landscape where endurance is simply part of living.

I'm honored that Between Wind and Endurance has been accepted into the High Desert Museum's Art in the West exhibition.

I’m very excited to share that my painting, "Between Wind and Endurance," has juried into “Art in the West” at the High Desert Museum in Bend, Oregon. With four out of five entries rejected, I’m deeply honored to have this piece included among such a strong and competitive field of artists.

Between Wind and Endurance is a 24" × 13" painting inspired by the high country of the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge. Dominated by vast sagebrush steppe and native bunchgrasses, this rugged landscape is shaped by wind, distance, and endurance, with windswept ridges punctuated by stands of mountain mahogany.
