What a wonderful day yesterday performing the hands work session for young girls through (NAWIC), National Association for Women in Conconstruction.
The girls were first taught about different brick and their role in building structures. Then a quick demonstration on how to hold the trowel and lay brick and block, then they paired up in twos and laid 4” block.
They then switched to the other side of the wall and learned to lay brick to the line.
The second task was to veneer a mock chimney while learning how to use a level to plumb and level the brick.
The final part was learning how to strike the joints on a brick wall prepared for them using different types of jointers.
Special thanks to Allison and Emily, our Project Managers, and the support crew from our yard who kept the mortar pans full, and materials ready for the girls.
Great job everyone!
