At Kick‑N‑Boots Tile, our clients aren’t just customers — they’re part of our family.
This morning we received a call from one of our past clients letting us know his wife is in the hospital. Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t share names, but our hearts are with them.

We’re sending our prayers, strength, and support to their family during this difficult time.
Life can change in a moment, and when it does, we stand with the people who trust us in their homes and in their lives.

Good morning, Bluffton and Sun City neighbors.
We just started another bathroom tub/shower conversion for one of your neighbors. This bathroom originally had a one‑piece fiberglass tub/shower unit, and the homeowners wanted a safer, cleaner walk‑in shower.

When we removed the old vanity, we found mold on the bottom of the drywall directly under where the vanity had been sitting. We informed the homeowner right away, opened the wall, and discovered 3/8" PB supply lines along with a leaking angle stop that had been slowly feeding moisture into the wall cavity.

We also found that the drain line and vent line were not correctly installed, which was causing sewer gas to leak behind the wall. This is something we’ve seen before when older plumbing was pieced together over the years — improper venting can let odor and moisture linger inside the wall cavity.

After pulling up the old bathroom floor tile, we uncovered more mold, plus a crack in the foundation that was allowing moisture to travel into the wall and floor system.

We cleaned and treated all the mold we found, filled and sealed the foundation crack with a cement patch sealant, and then installed the Schluter Ditra waterproofing mat to protect the bathroom floor moving forward. The space is now fully corrected and prepped for the rebuild.

Community Note
The homeowner let us know that neighbors are welcome to stop by and see the project in progress. We appreciate that trust — it means a lot when clients feel comfortable enough to open their home and let others see the work being done.

More updates coming as we continue the conversion.

🛠️ Shower Update
No new photos yet — the shower pan is still curing. Once it’s ready, we’ll be setting the shower pan floor tile. It’s about to start looking like a shower again.

🧱 Tile Tip: Shower Wall Systems We Use
GoBoard® – A waterproof foam backer board. When seams and corners are sealed with GoBoard sealant and mesh tape, it forms a complete waterproof system.
HardieBacker® – A fiber‑cement board that’s moisture‑resistant but not waterproof. It needs a membrane like RedGard or HydroBan for proper protection.
Schluter‑Kerdi® – A waterproof membrane installed over drywall or cement board, creating a continuous waterproof layer behind the tile.

Keeping your shower protected starts with what’s behind the tile — and we’re proud to build it right from the ground up.

Waterproofing Complete — Shower Pan Floated
We’ve wrapped up waterproofing and floated the shower pan, getting everything ready for tile. This stage sets the foundation for a solid, long‑lasting rebuild, and it’s always satisfying to see the prep come together before the finish work starts.

Bathroom Transformation — Sun City Hilton Head
From demo to finish, this shower rebuild came together beautifully. We started with a standard tub setup, opened everything up for a safer layout, and rebuilt with a linear drain, hexagon shower floor, 12×24 marble‑pattern tile, and a built‑in niche. The new design gives the homeowners a clean, modern look with better accessibility and comfort.

Always proud to help our Sun City and Bluffton neighbors upgrade their homes with quality craftsmanship.
