Have you narrowed down your custom home builder search to a few builders and are now preparing to meet and interview them? Wondering what questions to ask? Here are a few of our favorite tips!
1. Get to know them - spend some time at the beginning of the meeting to ask about them, and let them to get to know you and your goals. Hint: if they don’t have time for you now, how is that relationship going to be throughout the build?
2. Ask to meet the owner - this may sound strange, but requesting to meet the owner of the company for your custom build is completely acceptable and recommended. It is good for you and and them. Building a good relationship from the beginning is key.
3. Ask about the company - how long have they been in business, what is their story, how did they get into building, etc.
4. Ask to see photos of their homes - chances are you have already seen this is some of your preliminary research but get them to show off some of their product photos.
5. Ask for references - ask them if they will share some references of recent customers that you can contact. Happy recent customers means the builder is doing things right.
6. Ask about their process - make sure their process seems organized, you understand it, and it feels like something that will work for you as well. How do they handle communication? Do they use online client relationship and project management software to make the project transparent to all parties, etc?
