Located this water leak in the ceiling recently.

For the DYI guys, that relief valve needs to be directed to a drain or the exterior

The tank has to be removed to access the relief valve because of the location

Mystery leak

Homeowner was exhausted trying to figure out where the water leak was coming from after cleaning the p-trap for the bathroom sink

He had tightened the slip joint nut on the tail piece, replaced the slip joint washer, tightened the slip joint nut some more.. more than once

The pop-up assembly was extremely loose and didn't catch when the lever was pulled

Somewhere along the line the nylon gasket that secures the pop-up assembly and keeps the water inside the drain went missing

The result?

Water leaking through the pop-up assembly, down the tail piece, and to the p-trap
