❄️It’s freezing in Florida!❄️
With these unusually cold nights and dry weather, your St. Augustine grass goes into dormancy, conserving energy by pulling nutrients down into the roots. That straw-colored or brown look is normal and temporary.
What you can do to help:
• Water early morning if there are signs of drought stress (folded leaf blades, footprints that don’t bounce back.
• With no rain, about once a week is usually enough.
• Water 24–48 hours before a hard freeze if the soil is dry — moist soil holds heat and helps protect roots
• Never run sprinklers during a freeze!! Ice forming on grass blades can cause severe damage.
Maintenance tips:
• January and February mowing is often unnecessary.
• Leaving grass slightly longer helps insulate the roots.
• Stay off the lawn on frosty mornings - walking on frozen grass can permanently damage the blades.
