After years of building custom homes, we’ve learned that few kitchen decisions inspire stronger opinions than whether or not to put the sink in the island. 🫢
A sink in the island can create a really functional workflow and allow you to face your guests while prepping and cleaning. The downside? Dishes, soap and drying racks can quickly turn the island into the messiest part of the kitchen.
Keeping the sink out of the island gives you one large, uninterrupted surface for prepping, serving and gathering. But depending on the layout, it may mean facing a wall while you work or creating a less convenient path between the sink, range and refrigerator.
Honestly, we believe it depends on the kitchen, the size of the island and the family living in it. There isn’t one right or wrong answer. The best kitchen is the one designed around how you actually live.
So, which would you choose: sink or no sink? 👇
