New design in the wild! 🤩

This was a two-sided flyer design for a fun church gathering event coming up this fall.

We incorporated the church color palette and kept it simple, because the event is meant to be simple and casual. The design fits the experience. The copy is clear, concise, and compelling. And the flyer fit beautifully inside this Sunday's bulletin as an insert.

This was a fun, quick one to create! 🥰

I refreshed my Autumnal playlist this week and have been listening to it during heads down work. 🎵

Maybe it's still 90° where you live, but when I step outside first thing this week in Virginia, it is crisp and cool. Perfection. 🍂

Enjoy as you work or take a fall countryside drive → link in bio

By the way, I'm thinking of creating a playlist for every brand design I work on. Bring in the sense of hearing and set the tone, add to the brand story in a new dimension. 🥰

Coffee’s still warm. Calendar’s got room to breathe. ☕️

This is what a Tuesday looks like when you don’t take on more than you can actually do well. Real strategy time with capacity to think.

It’s not glamorous. Especially in the midst of a remodel. This is all a work in progress. 😜 But I have physical and mental space to be heads down, and I’m grateful.

Marketing with purpose means the work gets your full attention, not whatever’s leftover.

AI slop is real. And it’s infiltrating pretty much everything. I hear it on podcast scripts, see it in collateral designs, and watch it in reels.

Listen, I get it. Using AI saves so much time and makes things super easy. But please use it wisely.

If you let AI take over your messaging, or create visuals for your brand, the creativity and discernment get swapped for ease.

That is the opposite of marketing with purpose.

AI definitely has a place in your work. I personally use it every day. The key is to consider where it can help the most and whether or not it is taking over something that your customers will experience negatively, and therefore you lose trust. A serious loss.

Businesses who leaned hard on generic AI-generated copy or template-only websites over the past year are more exposed than they realize to a downward spiral. I don’t say this lightly. The Agile Brand says that 3 in 4 people say the marketing they receive feels like junk. 😬🤢

You’ve built something great. Don’t let a shiny new tool destroy it simply because it’s easy and quick.

Invest in genuinely crafted, brand-specific content. If you do, you’ll look more differentiated by comparison to the slop all the businesses around you are creating. ✨

This is the whole reason I do it by hand. Human-crafted, values-driven brand work is the foundation of my business.

If you’re looking for a strategist and designer to help you cut through the chaos of marketing, send me a DM. I’d love to hear about your business over a coffee call. ☕️

This was the moment I fell in love with NASCAR. 🏁🔥

I snapped this shot from pit road at the 2022 Daytona 500 — headset on, camera crew around me, completely out of my depth and totally hooked. I didn't know a lug nut gun from a jack when we started this project, and somewhere in the middle of it I became a full-blown fan. Bought the hat AND two t-shirts, and watched every race after. 😎

But behind this shot was two years of daily decisions that nearly wore me out — story angles, budget, licensing, who's on what trip, what stays and what gets cut. The kind of marketing decision fatigue that's real, and that I don't think enough people talk about.

We get worn out on so many levels. It's simply unsustainable, even when the project seems to give you so much life.

I wrote a new Field Guide about what actually got me through this project and all the decisions therein (hint: it wasn't doing it alone). Link in bio to read it — and a huge thank-you to for trusting us with this story in the first place.

Also couldn't have done it without .photography, , and SO MANY MORE.

Real Talk: a 30-second AI-built website has no bones. It's borrowing someone else's skeleton and calling it a body. ☠️

Here's what I mean...

Most AI site builders pull from the same limited pattern library, so businesses in the same industry end up looking like siblings, not competitors.

The copy defaults to safe and generic unless someone sits down and rewrites every line in their own brand voice. And worst of all, there's no strategy behind any of it. 🙅‍♀️

🚫 You'll get no thought about the user experience and no thought about where a visitor came from or what they need to see before they trust you enough to buy.

So, if you're a service business where trust is the whole point, a templated site built by tech and not a person can cost you more credibility than it saves you time.

None of this is a knock on using AI as a tool. I use it, too, pretty much everyday. Just don't let speed replace intention. A website built in 30 seconds can look finished, but it definitely won't perform the way you need it to.

Let's not be complacent about the one thing that's supposed to make people trust you before they ever pick up the phone. 🤌

If you want a custom-built website, drop me a DM. I'd love to hear more and see how I (a real live human!) can help.

Instagram just told on itself. 🫣 The app rolled out “Your Algorithm” transparency, letting you see (and edit!) why you’re being shown what you’re being shown.

Buried in that update is the math: a DM share reportedly outweighs a like by a wide margin, and saves aren’t far behind. Likes and follower counts don’t mean much at all.

I know we’ve all been trained to chase the double-tap, but if you’re measuring your content success based on likes, you’re grading yourself on the wrong test.

The content that wins right now is the content people want to keep or send to a friend.

Is the last thing you posted something someone would DM to a friend or no? If not, that’s your next content idea. 🙌

Y’all. What a way to end the week… with encouragement. Go compliment someone! 🙌

This is what it looks like when your referral funnel goes quiet. 🌾

You get no warning. Just... tumbleweeds.

I have a confession to make: I went looking for good advice on referral marketing strategy, and nearly every guide I found was written by a software company trying to sell me a platform. 😝

One of them said you need to be a multi-million dollar business before referrals are even worth planning for.

Ummm... that's just not true.

A referral marketing strategy isn't a tool you install. It's a decision to stop treating your best source of new business as a happy accident and give it a seat in your annual plan.

My newest Field Guide is up (link in bio). It's the plan I wish someone had handed me before my own inbox looked like this. 🌾
